Taking a good rank is the game of patience.
You must have to work hard and advertise your site with a huge effort. Try to advertise your site at place where you can get mature and active traffic.
I say it depends on the number of good and high quality links you build and if you keep building links instantly, doing so get's your site ranked pretty fast. At least what I have seen.
