    I had a question;

    Say through using British English dialect I tried to rank keywords in google. I live in the united states and from what I can tell the rankings are different.

    What would have to be done to rank in different locations?

    I'm guessing in addition to using British English dialect in your content , you can certainly try to build backlinks from .co.uk properties.

    There are probably tons of other things ...host your site in the UK? Set geo location in GWT? Get a .co.uk domain , build a site with similar content, rank it, setup a 301 to .com?

    Idk...I never actually tried to rank for google.co.uk :noidea:

    Good luck!

    You need to have a domain name co.uk. And acquire high quality backlinks from U.K websites.

    Dang, I guess I'll have to stick with US. What if I were to buy the .co.uk domain and have it redirect to my .com?

    This actually raises a lot of questions: .com is the most commonly used. Does it automatically redirect to co.uk in the UK?

    Do you have any idea about local SEO? I think you need a domain like .co.uk. If you are not so familiar with local SEO, I suggest you to hire a SEO expert.

    dont listen to people who say you need uk links. that is not the most important.

    make sure your content is based around uk. i have plenty like this ranking in uk. and also try hosting with a uk host.

    agreed. I run an SEO company and 90% of my clients are uk based. I rank them with global links without any issues. I also built and ranked my own lead gen sites which are on .org and .net domains (both currently sitting at number 1 in google.co.uk).

    The only thing I think you really need is uk related content and a uk address and phone number doesn't hurt either

    Cool, and by UK related content, does that mean targeting keyphrases that use UK spellings? For example using "crisps" instead of chips if you are writing an article about what Americans usually potato chips or something similar?

    do research for your keyword only in the location which you want (ex UK).
    Start link building using different strategies and check your ranking exactly in in that location google (ex. google.co.uk)
    And promote your website in business directories for UK only, as per recent update Google made business directories strong like yelp.co.uk.
    Better to do also link building on uk sites if possible.
