Hey guys, I'm a complete novice when it comes to web design and seo, but am in the process of putting something into action and needed some advice.

I'm following a method off here like (dentistin******.co.uk) although I'm not following the dentist theme. Could someone tell me how difficult/easy it will be to get my website ranked first page google if I where to give them my proposed domain?

Or does it not work like that? As stated already, I'm a total novice in this area but we got to start somewhere I guess...

Any help/advice mucho appreciated.

First page takes some work. It definitely won't happen over night. Learn how to implement SEO and work at it everyday and you may see the first page for your keywords.

it will take time to rank mate....start building some high quality links and post high quality stuff on your site

Thanks for the replies.

I'm basically going to be offering local trades advertising space on the site for a nominal fee, a sort of business index for a particular trade. I will be using the trade and area as the domain name itself. I kind of thought this would give me an edge over their existing independent sites as the key words are in the domain name...

Am I wrong in thinking this?

I have a sales rep ready (my pretty sister!) to go and hit businesses and hopefully get them signed up but I'd like to show them that the site ranks above theirs, which will hopefully close the deals.

That's the theory anyway lol.

I know i've a lot to learn.

Sdpn2010,

It can be difficult to estimate how long it will take you to rank for any given keyword phrase. No one can really say (although some may try) that you can rank for "xyz" term on the first page of Google in x amount of days. There are just too many factors to be able to determine a definitive timeline. For instance a more competitive keyword phrase will take longer to rank for than a less competitive one. The types of tactics your competitors are or are not using to rank for that same phrase are also a factor. Then there may be wild cards like what methods you are using to rank a particular page. For example if all you do is some onsite optimization, it may take you far longer to rank for a certain phrase than if you did onsite optimization, built a ton of backlinks, were extremely active on social media, wrote 3 blog posts a week, and got a bunch of user generated content on your website.

Here is a good resource for learning more about SEO,

Hope that helps,

Shawn
