So I'll try to keep this quick. I have a long-tail KW (3 KWs) with about 6500 exact monthly searches and $3 CPC.

The top 10 are horribly optimized according to TT, and states that it's "relatively easy" in terms of difficulty. They only optimization they have are DMOZ listings.

I have a non-EMD (.net) domain that's relatively new (1 month old) that I plan to use for this. I know I should use an EMD, but sadly that's not an option right now. The only tool I have is SB, so everything else must be done manually.

My very very basic blueprint is...
first day:
create 1 article for each KW (3 total?)
submit all to ezine
directory submissions

after first week:
start blasting site to AA's(don't know how many)

ongoing:
use SB and manually comment on high PR or authority blogs
continually create unique articles (3-5 per week?)
continue blasting site to AA's
blast links to article submissions in directories

And that's all I have. I've done a lot of reading but I'm still confused about a lot of steps. I'm sure I left out some major steps, or added in some "no-nos." I have a strong feeling I'm gonna get myself sandboxed.

Can anyone share some advice or suggest a better blueprint?

This is my first site and I don't wanna screw it up, so any advice will be greatly appreciated. I need all the help I can get.

You are going from the first step to the last one - directly.

1. First make sure you have onsite seo, unique articles (500 words, 2% density, more then 4 articles on the site).

2. Directories submissions. Add the site to google webmaster and fetch as google bot.

3. Build huge link pyramid with social networks (3 tiers).

4. Blast the shit out of them with scrapebox. Buy a xrumer service and blast the 3-rd tier.

5. Social bookmarks, high pr links, edu/gov links to web2.0 and mainsite. Don't use spammy AA lists found on forums. Make your own...

6. New content onsite and article directories(if unique point to mainsite, if not - point to web 2.0).

Repeat the last steps(3 to 6). And don't point sb to mainsite.

Gotcha, thanks for steps. I gotta do some more reading.

Should I wait a certain amount of time between steps, or is it okay to just blaze through them?

Your SEO should be divided on two parts.

1. OnPage SEO
2. OutPage SEO

You should do first OnPage SEO and that is also vital since it's like that you are preparing yourself to attract the sexiest bitch (Google)

And then after which, you are ready to do OutPage SEO, deploy your backlinks (quality backlink) - you must have a strategic plan or blueprint on how to do this kinda thing and this should be ongoing SEO.

You can do something like this if you want only social networks:

1 tier = 5 sites (wordpress,blogger,weebly,wetpaint,squidoo for example)
2 tier = 10 sites to tier 1 (different 10 sites)
3 tier = 35 sites to tier 2 (another 35 different sites)

On all of these you can point article directories to them, scrapebox blasts to make them stronger as a backlinks, forum blasts, social bookmarks... also nohands seo can help you out a lot :) If you have money try with senukex(or sick submitter), it can help you a lot.

You can have a great results if you have unique articles on the first tiers. Just point everything to them, you'll have strong backlinks.
