As a test for the last couple of weeks I've been trying to rank a local service website which is an EMD .info domain in the UK and finding it much harder than a .co.uk which has been pretty easy, anyone else had problems with this? Anyone know if .info domains are harder to rank? Early indications say they are...

Try using the country limit option in webmasters tool.

While I have never ranked anything for UK, I have experience ranking .info's in Nordics, and they rank just fine. I always set the target country in WMT so I have no clue how much weigh does that actually have if left unchecked, but I'd guess it has noticeable effect.
In less than 12 hours since I changed the setting to UK it has gone from no-where ( well 200+ position anyway as I only checked that far ) to top of page 5 which is a great start for a new, single page, basic site. So yes Oukast it makes a big difference

Too bad .us is forced to US (duh...), going to see is I can rank one to Nordics now...
