It’s still early days, and Google has made a lot of errors with their AI rollouts so far but seems pretty clear that AI Overviews are here to stay and undoubtedly going to be pushed more and more over the coming months.
Optimizing for these will be key to staying on top of your competitors.
Been playing around a bit with this so far but here are 3 recommendations I have for ranking in Overviews.
Tip 1: Observations from try to rank for ‘best xx agency’
We’ve been looking at how Agencies in the states rank for ' best xx agency’ and have seen the following patterns repeated across SERPS.
Google seems to be ranking agencies that have a source from:
Semrush and Ziptie.Dev have some great features that allow you to see where you and your competitors rank for AI search results.
Using this data you can reverse engineer how results are being ranked and look to replicate that for your campaigns.
Tip 3: Using Schema
A number of results we’re seeing are using Schema markup, and it makes sense why.
Schema markup as we know helps search engines better understand your webpage and provide context for the content placed there.
By using schema you’re helping Google to fully understand what your content means contextually, and from that you’ll have a better chance of ranking for AI related queries.

- Verified reviews: Google seems to be pulling in data from websites that have verified reviews from websites such as Clutch or The Manifest
- Third-party articles: Articles talking about and linking to said website with some kind of write up or story (Digital PR)
