Hey BHW members! I have been out of the "SEO" game for about 6 months now and am not familiar with the new Panda/Penguin updates. Can any of you guys point me in the right direction on where I can brush up!?? What are some of the best new practices and what are the no-no's?? If you no of any good sites or blogs to follow here, i'll take it. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Latest penguin didn't bring anything new really. All it did was, that now google "appreciates" authority sites (even more than before) more than micro sniper sites, so go the authority way if you know what you are doing.
Apart of that, nothing new, just the old stuff:

1. Have quality backlinks
2. Tons of backlink diversity
3. Tons of anchor text diversity
4. Don't build backlinks too fast

And another black and white animal says:

Have awesome content.

Web 2.0 and Social Signals play Important Role since Penguin 2.0

You should know about Co Citation also.
In short,
When we create a Link on an article of a Web 2.0 Properties, in the past we only created a Link for our Sites.
But today, There should be a Link linked to Authority site also.

What Nargil just wrote is 100% true. Now Google wants only high quality backlinks (tier 1), and tier 2 for tier 1. Dont do all backlinking in one day, spread. And dont leave any footprints + no tools for tier 1, use your hands.

Best of Luck!

Have less backlinks blut quality backlinks!

Good Content, Regular updates on your website (make a blog section where you can add content regularly), Web 2.0 link (without footprint), Social Buzz, Links through Press release, Anchor diversification (add naked url & generic keywords as well), Guest posts.

Avoid too much direct linking on one URL, avoid links from blog networks, don't build 200,000 in one day and 0 links for 1 week, make stable links every day

These are few pointers which might help you.

Six months is not a long time for you to talk about big changes.

The only thing you might not know if adword tool is no longer available.

The panda and penguin remains the same and are here to say..
