Hey guys, weeks ago I created a Google My Business listing, verified the location and made sure the listing was categorized correctly. If I Google the store's name, it will show up on Maps, but it will not show up in the Maps search results.

For example, imagine that it is a restaurant in Amsterdam. When Googling "restaurant Amsterdam" it will not show up on the Maps listing.

And by the way, there are only about 20 other businesses for what I'm trying to rank. It's not like there are so many other shops.

Google's algorithm has many ranking factors including offline. If you haven't done citations, on-site optimization, links and much more then that is why you are not showing up.

Furthermore, there was a google update that hid spammy local businesses. I am not saying yours is a spam, it just may be that google views it as such.

Any idea when this update hit?

My local result dropped quite recently from very dominant to very visible. No knowledge panels but first place for almost all my terms in a competitive place/industry.

Still working on what caused it. One of main keywords dropped a few places in organic and that affected local in that I dropped out of the pack for that

This is an ongoing update but it was launched in September 2016. You may want to read about it, it's very interesting.

I just did this for my local area, make sure you have all the info filled out address, phone, email, hours of operation. Most only fill out a couple. Also add photos and you should get the top spot. Worst case make sure all your naps are the exact same and it's on your contact page and site footer. Get some Google+ social signals they are connected to your google account . Boom top few when your searched. That's what happened for me anyways with google maps.

Try getting some reviews on the listing.

You need to register your business on local and niche catalogues. You need consistent using of your NAP (Name Address Phone) and a proper microdata describing details about your business. Start with that first.
