ranking in google.ca

So my website ranks well on google.com but pretty badly in google.ca

if I bought a .ca domain and did some backlinking on there, would there be any trouble if both .com and .ca linked to the same content or will I get penalties from it?

tried quite a few things to rank for google.ca but I am still pretty far down compared to google.com and these are the 2 major markets for my website so it would be nice to rank for both

that means google does not think your content is related to / useful for canadian audiences. Do you have enough keyword density claiming you offer a canadian service / product? That is all that should be required. links to you from "canadian sites" won't help per se, unless the anchor text also mentions that you have canadian services too.


A .ca domain should not be necessary, but if you do get one you should also get it on a canadian IP/server. Apparently that makes a difference if what you are offering is local based. And if it is local based, you should also sign up for google places

But again, I don't think this is necessary. I think you just need to add keyword density. Of course, all standard SEO rules apply.

where is the .com hosted? If you would like to rank in Canada, host your website on canadian web hosting, not in usa. Also you dont have to buy .ca just change your hosting provider and on the google webmaster tool in settings make that you are targeting audience in Canada.

well, my main audience is still USA so I want to rank high in google.com, it's just that ranking for the .ca would bring additional visitors
