Hey is it possible to rank higher than google maps listings?
If this is possible, is there anything special i have to do? Like maybe add an address and telephone number on my website?

thanks!

Google Adwords

he's right if you include the sponsored listings which are always there on the top.. Google's got to make bank.

When I did it, and I'm still #1 for my local KW, I did some seo also, plus had a couple of buds give a comment. Not sure it helped, but didn't hurt.

Yes you can rank higher then google locals in the organic search. That is the answer to one of your questions. As for the other question, I am not sure how it is done. Proper SEO I guess. I work with a lot of clients, a lot meaning close to 500 that we are ranking in the google locals/maps and there are some times when Google places a site above the maps listing on the web page. I am not sure what is special about the site, and have done zero research on this cause it has never concerned me. Most of the time the site is not noticeable, because the maps listing is right below, it really takes away from the sites listing.

If I figure anything out about it I will come back and post it up here.

You can definitely rank higher than google maps, especially for local. For me it happens all the time, I'll google (for example) proctologist near 45678 and the google maps list will be waaay down there.

Now if you want your local listing to rank higher than those organic seo'd sites, then get your listing rated. It may be unofficial, but getting your listing on other sites (yelp, vitals, etc) seems to bump it to the top.

Yes it seems to be possible but I have no clue about the rules so far. Can see quite frequently client pages ranking (natural) #1, competition #2+3 and then the Google map appears as #4 in the holiday/travel niche. Can see it though only using the adaquate country TLD, not on g.com

Hello,

Google propose a free business listing to little businesses at the top of a large amount local search results pages. Local Google Advertising is what we're after when we talk about Google's local business listing center.

thanks guys, Now i am not sure if i should try to get my site on the google map listings and forget about SEO.
Which one gets more traffic? google maps listings or the regular listings?

If it's a business with a physical location and clients that are geographically nearby, I'd say focus on Google Maps/Local.

For an online business, or one that has a broad/global customer base, organic ranking would probably be better.

It just makes sense.

Its a blog to generate leads for offline business. Would Google maps listings get most of the traffic?

Yes it is possible mate, and no I don't know how exactly but I've seen many sites that have done it.
