ranking for UK google?

One of my website is ranking very nicely in USA google on page 1.. however in UK google it's on page 4..

It's an amazon affiliate website and it displays prices in US$.. i guess that is why google sees it as irrelevant to the UK market.

should i buy a .co.uk domain with the same domain name and 301 it to the .com?

Can't you set up some sort of Geo targeting - so it displays uk prices etc for uk visitors ? Or clone the site for uk? I don't think 301 will do the job, Google will know it's targeting US...

Surely there is more volume in the USA serps?

You can set international targeting in webmaster tools if you want to rank in the UK instead.

Some things are very popular in UK and not as popular in USA so the results are pretty neck and neck
I want to rank both googles..

In USA i'm serp 6 for main keyword .. in UK im on 4th page!

That's what the hreflang tag https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/189077?hl=en was made for. Simply get the .co.uk, clone the site and put it on the co.uk, change the links to Amazon UK, add prices in GBP and properly implement hreflang on both sites. Now, you have two versions of one site, one for the US, one for the UK and if you did it correctly, your UK rankings should skyrocket.

I think more competitors are present in the .co.uk domain.

If you want to increase the rank, you need to research more new keywords to beat the UK market competitors.

Not only that, use more backlinks and you must spend more money to focus your site at first in the UK market.
