Ranking For Specific Keywords Question

Okay this question may just be so basic some people will laugh and yell noob and whatnot, but I've done a lot of SEO yet never really thought of it. And all the information you can get helps right..

If you want to rank for a specific keyword, is the only way to do that to have your backlinks have that keyword as anchor text? Just for offsite SEO, onsite I know your domain should have the keyword as well as H1 tags among other things. Pretty basic question, but thanks for your answers

dont just have it as anchor text, make sure its in the title tag of the offsite link

Yeah, pretty much. The way I do it is take the exact term I want and budget about 50% of the offsite links for that exact phrase, then the other 50% I split up between 3-4 "one offs" of the exact phrase. So if the phrase is "german shephard dog kennels" the one offs would be "german shephard dog kennel" and "dog kennels for german shephards" etc.

But yes, the anchor text of the link is very important.

Okay great thanks for your input. I've been using Scrapebox and mostly just been using names as anchor text and I'm getting a lot of backlinks, but I seem to be all over the place for rankings. I'll start trying to mix in some keywords as the anchor text and see how I go from there.

Youve got to be "natural".

Many people who link to sites write things like - "click here for the keyword1 and keyword2 pricelist" The anchor they use is "click here".

So I tend to use "try this", "click here", "More info", "like this" etc etc in my anchors
I think my ratios are
Keyword 30%
Word Keyword Word 30%
Domain name 10%
Normal words - meaning similar to keyword (say keyword is "Shoes" - then "footwear" will be here.) 10%
"click here", "here", "try this" type of words - 20%

Thats what I aim for anyway!!!!

I've got a question concerning exactly that:
I'm blasting the hell out of scrapebox, but only about 5-10% of my successfully posted links get successfully checked, too. So i blasted about 10k Backlinks, but only 70 found their way to google.

I'm using always my keywords, so should I continue or use names like "Steve" or "Mark" ?
