Ranking for Banking Terms... Hard?

I have been doing some research on banking terms today and I was wondering if anyone else has some experience in ranking for these type of terms.

I know in the end it will be worth it since CPC is $10+ but even though competition is low 1-5% max for the terms I am researching the global / us searches is only 1k-9k max usually.

So far I have already did research on some of the sites on the top 10 on Google and some have 50 backlinks to reach their rank and some have 250.

Back in the day I set up a site about a banking term and wrote a couple articles but did not do any promotion and came back a few weeks later with the site making $10 a day but forgot what kind of research I did to find the term. It has been 4 years since I have done any type of internet marketing.

It's been 4 years since you did any form of internet marketing and you are assessing the competition based on your 2010 knowledge and experience. Tons of changes have happened since then.

If those pages with 50 backlinks are on authority websites like Investopedia and Forbes, you'll find it very difficult to outrank them. I suggest you look for a keyword whose SERP contains at least 1 niche site in the top 10 and weak sites like forums and Q&A sites. Those are the keywords you can easily rank for within 2 months or less.

You need to think more about building an authority site that encompasses more than banking alone. If you include inner pages about business and add a pinch of legal into the mix then you can target more traffic.

Use SEMrush to really check out your competitions keywords and backlinks. I would bet that sites ranking for banking terms tend to have authority site backlinks with high trust flow.
