So story time, I run an esports team, a few actually. And I recently terminated a players contract who wasnt performing well enough the past 6 months. he got picked up by another team and I guess he was telling them stories about what we did to him or some shit like. But either way, they decided to attack us, DDosing our site, spamming our methods of contact etc, registering domains simular to ours and trying to hold them to ransom, all this childish shit.

So I decided, fuck it, Ill write a nice little blog post about you, and posted it on a few sites, reddit and stuff, not alot just public high traffic stuff to get the word out there.

Anyway, the page did really well traffic wise, and not from those sites, but from direct searches for their name. I check the search result and the first 5 results are for their site, then theirs my blog post, IN BIG CAPITAL LETTERS, continues by more of their generic pages.

These guys arent any competition for us ingame, hell they arent even in the same leagues.

So this little blog post, is starting to out rank their own site for their own brand keyword. So there are a few questions I have about this.

First, Is it good or bad to out rank a competitor for their brand keyword - In googles eyes?
Is it possible to completely take over their brand keyword?
Should I actively target their brand keyword?

If they decide to rank their own brand you will have a hard time out-ranking them. I'd stay away from them, if they have already attacked your servers, sooner or later they'll blast your site to death with negative seo. Not worth it in the long term. You'll only waste time and resources.

I would try to give them a message and then de-escalate.
