Im currently debating weather to take on a project for a friend..

like a fool he has just had his whole site redesigned in flash. so his serps are non existant.

is there anything from me adding text content to the flash page, and with some sneaky absolute css positioning place the flash over the top?

Gbot would see content and some flash, users would just see the flash.

What you need to do is build a text version of the site for the googlebot and send normal traffic t the flash site.

If you want to sound like a genius, tell him to switch to HTML or WP now, before he invests heavily into this new site. Flash sites are SEO suicide.

You will seem like a genius later when he realizes how colossal a blunder he made.

Don't waste your time trying to rig the content for googlebot. Spend that effort helping him redesign without flash.

It's possible to rank a flash site, but significantly harder. I'd advise he redo his site again rather than wasting all the extra money trying to rank a website that's going to have issues ranking.

Flash might be appealing for visitors but its a pain to SEO

It is more than a pain to SEO it is a death knell and he will spend a fortune to no avail.

If you are smart, bail if he decides to stick with flash, it really is a nightmare.

Just put a wordpress install in the /blog directory and try and make sure you can link to individual sections of the flash site using /index.html#keyword method. If he can't forget about ranking the flash site and just get the blog ranking until you can prove its worth then he will have to pay out for another design.
