Ranking Factors In Google October 2012

I'm trying to understand what you're suggesting here. The keyword density wouldn't have much to do with google being able to detect it as google does not evaluate pages based upon how often words appear for if that's their "target" or not (at least to a point). Google would not sweep through and select any phrases appearing only 1% to n-gram check, as the likelihood those phrases have anything to do with the keyword are basically zero.

3-4-5 word phrases being FOUND does not indicate that the article is unique or non-unique. For instance (as discussed in another thread), I used the phrase "it would destroy colloquialism". However, this phrase does not appear at any time in Google's index, but is a perfectly valid, totally unique, and specific critique of this method. Google has just never indexed this phrase yet.

As such, the computational needs here would have to be extremely large for any article... my guess is upwards of 20-30 checks of 4-5 word phrases in order to establish any sort of useful information. This would be so computationally heavy, that I suspect Google doesn't use it at all.

I think he thinks these 4-5 phrases are LSI keywords. But this cannot be true since such long phrases as you already said rarely occur. It is individual words what counts as LSI keyword. Maybe even two words phrases such as "car insurance".

This is interesting and probably the most important factor of all. I discussed this in great details. It is probable, that Google May determine the theme of the page the back link is created on, and then counted this as the achort text.

So this means that anchor text may be the most important thing, it is onlyvery bad if you go over 30%, because it is a property of a spamy link profile. But, maybe the context of the page is what's counts for other 70%.

So, it should be very important for T1 articles to be about anchor text. If one cannot do that, I think it would be the best practice to include anchor as a keyword several times in the text of the article. So Google will know what is this article about.

A good experiment would be, to see do links with generic anchor text, comming from pages about the targeted keyword, woulf increase rank for the targeted keyword.

Let us know what do you think?

If you do this on all of your T1 anchor text you're going to fall into the over optimisation penalty. wouldn't ya ? At least that's what I think.

No,only the T1 article should be optimised for the keyword. Anchor text should be generic.

I think "effective" anchor text = theme of the article the backlink comes from. Of course, providing real anchor text is generic.

I should mention this is just an aproximation. It is by no means 100% true.

My bad I didn't understand you well, okay then . Agreed.

Wow, great post. I've often wondered if anyone was doing some sort of google algorithm simulation.

Really interesting results and great explanation.

The biggest change in recent month is that many keyword-match domains were buried into SERPs, especially the domains included keywords and more than one slashes.

Actually this article need to be read very carefully. I think Google is changing its algorithm daily. So keeping us up to date is very important.

That G is penalizing above the fold ads is a joke considering that I often notice when I use G to look something up, the "above the fold" results page contains almost only sponsored results and youtube vids.

Brilliant post btw, it definitely seems that there is no single element that will rank a website and that its a real mix of differently weighted factors that need careful planning and a certain degree of knowledge. Incredible effort gone into this study and post.. thanks again, this is what makes BHW a great forum to be part of. :)

This also proves that SEO is not dead like so many like to claim.

Totally agree, content kills it all. If you have got good quality content you can easily hit the peak. You have posted a really informative stuff. Many points have been cleared out. Thanks

Another way of saying this is to have no more than one outbound link (even if it's to your own site) per 250 words.

What about related links at the bottom of a post? Does this apply only to the contextual links found in the article body or to the related links at the bottom too. I'm asking this because if the content is 500 words, that means we would have to limit our related posts plugin to show only 2 related posts, but I've never seen any site display less than 3 before.

Listening to all this, it's pretty ridiculous all this comes into play when all you hear G say is build quality sites and quality links.

you are great! :)

1000 times better than crappy SEO blogs.
