hello i had rankings drop on a few sites. i think built a few links too fast, any idea if the rankings will return or not or how to fix the issue or do i need to start over

highly likely the dance

keep adding quality content and quality links and you will come back stronger

ya well each site dropped about 50 positions. i tried to remove some of the links i did to scale it back in case it was a speed issues, hopefully it fixes itself

50 positions is not good as it indicates a - 50 penalty. This is usually automated penalty and not manual and also most likely triggered by too many spam links in a short space of time. This penalty can last 60 - 90 days so in the mean time you just have to keep building links and adding content and hope they comes back (gets released automatically) sooner.

i think you give spamming links build some high pr links and wait

none were spam links, they were all on a high pr network.. i just did too many too fast. every time i check the rankings today they are in a different spot, could just be the dance.. i have removed quite a few of the more recent ones i did to stave off the penalty if indeed that what it is.

Homepage or blog networks? If you copy the first sentence of the site and paste into Google search and search, does your site come up in the first few postions? If not then its a penalty and you will bounce between page 5 and 7 but never get above page 5. Had this happen to one of my sites just today!

i have a feeling it will be back within 24 hours. my domains are old and have plenty of backlinks, no need for such a google penalty but i guess time will tell.

i think ive had this happen before, if its not back in 24 hours like it usually comes back then its probably long term
is it normal for them to be jumping all over the place or is that what indicates the penalty?

Hope both our sites come back in 24 hours, otherwise thats $1k less a month i can count on for a while!

It's a penalty, same thing happened with my site with building too much links fast. It will come back pretty soon, mine was penalized for 1 month, and was nowhere to be found in first 1000 for a keyword with 0 competition, now just a couple of days ago it suddenly appeared on page 5-6-7 for literary all the keywords and slowly going up. Don't build links, only fresh content and some social bookmarks as they are the new hype for google.

i figured as much. i removed a whole bunch of links i recently did for the site to hopefully counteract the effects of the drop. i think that will help.
