Ranking Changes October 17th-19th

Hey everyone, so I have had a nice suprise from Google lately on almost all of my sites, and I wanted to see if anyone else had the same thing happen, so maybe we can figure out why and use that to our advantage. I randomly checked one of my sites rankings in Webmaster Tools, and saw it had gone up A LOT. This wasn't too much of a shock, as I had recently added a few original articles to it. So when I saw that, I went and checked my other sites, and they all went up too. All around the same days. October 17th, 18th, 19th. Here are some shots from my Google Webmaster Tools accounts to let you guys compare them to your own, and see if there are any similarities:

One of my main sites, this was the first site I checked. I had recently added new original articles to the site. This site is completely white hat. No blackhat style SEO at all on it. New all time high in rankings by far:


An Ecommerce style website, basically no original content, all scraped and auto generated. It recently took a big dip in rankings, and this spike on the 17th/18th has brought it back to where it was:


A Wordpress blog. No SEO done in the last 2 months on this website. All original content. It has been fairly steady in ranks for the last month or so, and just on the 18th it tied its all time high, and on the 20th its set a new all time high:


A small wordpress blog which is just starting out. Half original, half copy/paste content. Built some basic backlinks to get all the pages indexed. Nothing too in depth:


Note: When I say "Rankings" I mean impressions. Impressions and clicks are how I judge the success of my sites in terms of "SEO". I do not usually track individual keywords. So for the purpose of this thread, I am just wondering if anyone else had any noticeable gains in overall impressions/rankings around the 17th/18th/19th of October. If you can also say if you recently did any SEO on it, added lots of Original content, if it is mostly duplicate/scraped content, then we be able to get some useful information from this data. Right now, it is just raw data. The more people who post their recent changes, the more information we may be able to gather.

Mine remains the same, also noticed on traffic > links to your site, everything was gone. I only have a couple of links, before there were thousands of them. This happened to two of my sites, anyone experience this?

I have noticed the same thing on several of my websites. Some of them, all of the "Links to Your Site" are completely gone. And I know there was information before. Even on sites whose links were just spammy blog comments are showing on some of my sites... so unfortunately, the answer is yes I have experience with it, but I don't know if it is because the links are not being counted by Google, or its a glitch or what. I built some blog comment links to my new little blog a few weeks ago, so if I see Google count those links any time soon, I will update here.

Yup i noticed it myself too.. up from position 175 to 75 around those dates. Was previously number 1 before the updates, haven't done much to it if anything really since the updates either, was an emd too and it's only ranking for that keyword

It's nice to hear about your sites ranking and its a nice way to gather more authentic info about SEO for these days. Mine 5 latest posts gain relatively higher rankings on google than older post with fewer backlinks.

That's interesting. On my largest site, I've noticed a 30% drop in traffic on 19th, it came back the next day, hopefully it will stay

Hmm....well I have noticed alot of upwards changes - October 17-20th was no different . I don't play fair though - Google is nice when you give her everything she wants - even during times of scary updates imo.

I think they dumbed down the yt vids ranking power, dumbed down press releases, and gave web pages beside home pages, higher rankings.

Thanks for posting yours! Wow, yours has been extremely steady so maybe mine was just a random coincidence.

Yeah, I didn't see anything either...shame

I noticed my big changes on the 19th (this thread)

About the only thing different I did was the Fightback Network - it may have helped me, but I'm putting it more down to a culmination of lots of work

Perhaps your site could have some things in common with the info's I provided yesterday here?

Well, all of my sites are different styles/platforms etc, so I don't think it was that particular update that affected all of them. I am now thinking it may have been a coincidence with a couple of them on the timing. Only one of them is still going up each day, the others have leveled off or dropped slightly.

Yeah I had the same thing happen with my site around those days. Was ranking on pg 2.

Lots of people had some changes on oct15-20. I think google did some changes in their algorithm...My sites lost some backlinks ......
