Have you ever gotten ranking boosts from using random or variation of your keyword anchors?

With penguin coming up, I figure it might be safer to use some random anchor text for a few weeks now. Curious if authority links without the money keywords in them could help overall rankings.

Thanks

There hasn't been a penguin update in over a year now and the update is likely coming soon though penguin may become real time now.

The "update" is in real time already.

Most "updates" as of late have been fake tracer bullets put out to test the SEO gurus. Not a single SEO "expert" detected Hummingbird until Google put out a press release saying they did an update. Far as I can see most "updates" are simply index refreshes.

I don't care about the so called seo gurus as we know many of them are full of shit but I'm willing to place bets when the penguin update gets going fully (even if its a refresh) there will be tons of people posting about ranking changes on here. Some are already reporting changes but it doesn't seem like a full on update yet.

This is statement is totally wrong when it comes to Penguin, with Penguin before is not like afte, I do not re-call any Penguin update that went unnoticed (unless you are doing no anchor text white hat SEO)

Anonoptimization, less keyword focus anchor text will help you for sure to avoid a Penguin update (could be too late not) but the question becomes can you retain your good ranking with less or no keyword focus anchor text? The answer is no unless you are an authority site, small websites stand no chance without using anchor text especially when it comes to ranking for competitive keywords

I have a decent amount of links as anchor text. I don't think my money keywords anchor ratio is so high but I'm thinking for long term stability it might help to randomize it a bit more and also do related but not exact money keyword anchors.

Partial match anchor texts (combined with no anchors and generic anchors) and partial match domains are the way ahead. That has been for a long time now.

Partial matches, LSI, generic - its more based on context than the actual anchor these days (not completely, but heading in that direction for sure), OP.

Bottom line is - it should make sense, Google is a huge data company, they have tons of data to compare, dont make something that a regular internet user would never do (No one links to a website with "dog food diets reviews now")

Of course you don't. If you didn't see it, how would you recall not seeing it ;) ?

There have been many. Also there've been false positives and lots of misinformation spread around. Hummingbird is the best example. Nobody noticed it until weeks later and in fact it may not even exist.

As to what you are saying I think it is obvious when Penguin comes and the algorithm monitors go off the charts. Google usually ends up confirming it a few days later. Arguably Google could be running Penguin tests all the time but when they full on run the algorithm it is pretty easy to see and the amount of people seeing ranking makes it more obvious.
