Do you think it would be possible to get a brand new authority site ranking off of pure content alone? I was thinking something like this:

  • 25 Articles, each 600 words, targeting low-competition phrases.
  • A new article added every second day, once again 600 words and targeting low-competition phrases.
Do you think that this could rank well in Google without any backlinks? To super-charge it, an aged domain with PR of 2+ would be used :D

Thinking about my future white-hat prospects

Well just because you're not doing any aggressive manual/automated backlinking doesn't mean you can't have a backlinking strategy. Think social sharing potential and content marketing as a whole. I've ranked a number of sites through this method for competitive keywords, though the content investment was 200+ articles and over 5000 social shares.

When the word collapse...maybe.

To be more serious you can try writing content purely for the link bait purpose (it takes a lot of knowledge about the industry to catch a hype and write a hot article) in his case scenario you could rank your site with only shockingly amazing content. I would personally step away from this idea instantly if I were you.

Its more a resource question though. These articles will be expensive to purchase outright, for quality 600 word articles its like $2USD per 100 words at least. So it all adds up really; its either link building or lower-quality content.

Then again, I could always write half the articles up front to save costs for link building... :P sigh.

Lol :D hopes/dreams crushed.

Well if you're looking to make money then you need to identify your ROI, obviously depends on your business model. If you can make $2000/month from 200 articles then that's money in the bank.

Ranking with content itself it kind of hard now a days.
Even if you get ranked you are in between 50-100th positions.

It would be no problem with a WP hosted blog. Much easier to start with a WP subdomain and then scale up to your own domain.

Only social share?
manually done or using software (which one?)
thks for ur input knaox.

whitehat you say? White is kinda invisible in google's eyes

put adsense ads on ur site in order to get back the money that u invested for outsourcing articles writing ( for original and quality article price is around $3 per 100 words).
I read that a guy invested between 500 to 1000$ ( it is 40 to 80 articles 400 words length), he got his money back in three days thanks Adsense revenue, choose keywords niche which is going to pay u around 0.5 $ per click and u should be fine.
to ur success

Social sharing should be considered, no matter if you would build links or not. Since, your followers and friends in social sites will do the rest. At least, you should do this for a month or two IMO.

its possible to build it, and yes, rank high without SEO if the content is really good (other people will link to you) and you can use different marketing methods as well.

Been there done that, won't rank anywhere to get enough traffic.. A site must have backlinks to rank. And no people won't come out to link back to you enough for them to take care of everything, the game has changed.

With really low-competition terms you can sort of rank, and if you have many articles and a good niche, you can make some money - but I don't think this kind of a project would be worth your time unless you a)love writing about your niche or b)make no money and need to get started.

The point is it's a low-risk-low-reward kind of a project, this is not the kind of a thing that will get you any real money UNLESS the content is exceptional and it goes viral.

If you really have zero links, bookmarks etc then it will only rank for keywords with nearly zero competition.

IMO, with low competition keywords, what you need to do for the initial step is keep bookmarking each of the post to over 10-20 social bookmark high PR. I think this simple step will give pretty nice rank. And this is my 1st step before going to the next level of linkbuilding

Yes It can rank, but it will take time to rank, 2-3 years maybe?

I suggest dont put ads yet, until you see a nice stream of traffic, try to make your site viral (facebook shares, g+, tweets and more).

You said that you outsource your content right? So means you have no work to do, how about bookmarking your content it can help you to rank

It's very difficult to rank with content alone. Content is king but not when on its own. You need a good promotional strategy to help your site rank. Exciting content (King) + Effective and Efficient Promotion (Queen) = Ranking and Links! (Prince and Princess).
