Ranking an individual page

Hello BHW,

I set up a site a few months ago (on the way to being an authority). I've set up about 80 posts so far. I've created maybe 5 backlinks (blog comments when I didn't know better), and a top answer on Yahoo answers.

Now 2 of my posts (the 2 most popular posts) get quite a few views each a day, and have both AdSense and Amazon affiliates on there. They were both properly searched keyword-wise to catch people just as they want to buy something. They are both converting well, but as always, they could be better!

I was wondering about the possibility of getting in Google's bad books if I start to increase their position in the SERPS. Everything I've done so far has been white-hat (ie. nothing, just on page SEO), but both of these pages are at #7 in the search for their keywords, and I want them at #1. The keywords are not that competitive, and doesn't look like I'd have much of a problem increasing in the SERPS.

Is it going to start looking suspicious to Google if a couple of posts on my website start to get a fair bit of link juice to them, and the others are left alone? I have a couple of posts that have links from authority websites (naturally made, they liked my write up), but no sort of tiered linking so far.

I wanted to create a few web 2.0s and lower tiers at a slow and steady pace, not just blast them. Would I need to spread out the campaign across multiple pages rather than just the 2 pages I want? I really don't want to get a penalty now it's flowing.

As your site is already ranking, increase its presence in social media and create youtube video views as well. you can create quality web2.0 sites to link back to your site, when creating properties target other LSI keywords along with money keywords in steady phase, that will help. You can create backlinks for more than one url of your site as well.

yeah, that's a d'oh on my part. I did them as my very first link and then learned better and havn't manually built a link since the yahoo answers top answer.

Should I disavow the link or try remove it? There's only a couple, could it really be that bad in google's eyes?

I got a retweet off an authority in the niche the other day and that's whats spurred me on. I've started on a couple of web 2.0s with good content. I've not put any links on there yet as I'm undecided whether to go that route or not.

Videos I plan to do quite a few tutorial style videos when I get the chance. so should I just keep trying to make my website the most useful in the niche and not try to do any link building if I want to become a true authority - no greyhat so to speak?

While blog commenting may be bad in masses, we are talking 5 links. I wouldn't go too crazy off of that. How is your site's interlinking? Being that you are #7 without much effort linking wise, you can probably boost it up fairly easy. I would try 1 or 2 PR links to each and see how it goes. You might not need much and those few links should not do any harm.

Cool, I presume when you say 1 or 2 PR links, you mean NOT a blog comment spam... I have another blog that's a PR2, but will be the same IP (shared hosting). Should I not link from 1 to the other? Am I best looking for a legit linkback?

I think you should get traffic to your individual page, by becoming active on Facebook or creating Youtube videos promoting the keywords you want to rank for.

don't interlink projects unless you know what you're doing (private blog network)

The video's a great idea; I'll get on it right away. I suck at facebook though, I'll have to do some proper research on that. I only have 50 likes (natural from the like button on my page) but never get any likes or shares on my statuses.

Just start link building already. You probably listened to one of those people who say "don't build links before 134.88172 days or else you're fucked".

I start link building before I even get my websites indexed!
