Ranking a one page wordpress website

Hi all,

I have started a series of websites which all run on the free Placeholder theme from Woothemes. The thing is that the website, to have its conversion, needs to be a one page website. So I found this theme and it suits the needs. But there is not much content on the website. Just a few lines, images and a button to push.

How can I rank this website on its keywords. Its keyword is just one long tail keyword with a clear call to action. Please give me your advice on ranking.

i don't mean to impose on your thread, but i have the same question. however, my site is more informational than IM driven (although it would be nice if my CTR could be higher :) ). I've been looking into how i can get more traffic and it seems like either you outsource it or do it yourself. for starter, building some web 2.0 link wheels, but i don't know how effective that will be since i myself haven't been able to implement it successfully. i'm not sure if a few line of content on your page and a button will qualify your site as enough 'quality' content. i hope other members will be more helpful in answering your question. best o' luck!
 
Its possible.

Currently ranking a 1 page site at 4th on G. Default Wp theme :)
 
You will have an extremely hard time doing this. You need more content and more pages.
 
I have a lot of 1 page sites in top 10, but moving to authority sites now...
 
You can rank it easily if the page have 1000 words+. Another powerful technique is to make a blog (http://www.mysite.com/blog/) and add a link to it in the footer of your homepage, then populate that blog with unique content (linking to your homepage) and make sure to backlink it too.

So what you are saying is I should install a second wordpress blog in the address submap /blog and get some articles going there? Link to that site on my main one page wordpress installation and that way I will rank better? I know I can have good unique content on the blog. I just do not want it on the mainsite. It has to be short and simple. Want this? Click here.

You can rank better with more content, so instead of adding it to your homepage create a blog, add a small link to it in the footer and fill that blog with content.
 
As it happens, i've just been studying a site in a competitive niche that ranks number 1 with just one page wp theme! To give you some insight, the site has probably 2000 to 3000 words on the page. The various parts of the content are navigated to through links and the site has good quality back links to it. Add to it the fact that its an EMD. The on page optimisation is good too.

Yeah, create a blog. But does that mean I should install a second wordpress installation on my domain but install it to the www.domain.com/blog directory and link to domain.com/blog on my page where I want them to convert and go to from Google?

Yes install wordpress on that directory. But i don't get what you mean by "go to from Google" ?!
 
You will have to link to it from somewhere if you want the search engines to find it anytime soon. An out of the way, non-emphasized link from your domain.com page would be fine. It doesn't sound like you want users attracted to that part of that site... and that the human users need to stay on your main page.
 
If your site is in an uncompetitive environment, sure, you could rank. In most cases, it probably wouldn't.

That is corrent. I want them on the main site, not on the blog. But if I need to install a second wordpress installation into the /blog directory and that way fill it up with content and get ranked by linking to /blog on my mainsite www.x.com then that is fine.

It is semi competitive. I know another website with same theme and same idea ranked quite high. So it should be possible!

Don't over backlink your blog, just backlink every new content with some good backlinks and work more on your homepage. That's it!
 
You will have to do a lot of external SEO to get any visibility to this type of website. I have similar landing pages for some of the clients (no navigation, not much content, some images and contact form) but all of them set on the URL with main website and I use those pages for PPC advertising.
