    Hi everyone!
My next project will be a german cooking website and I'm currently working on my SEO strategy for it.
I never tried to rank a non-english website and I'm wondering if there is anything special to it.
I think that it will look unnatural if most of the backlinks come from english sources.

no problem at all, but you have to understand that for contextual links in web 2.0 you should do german articles
but I ranked spanish keywords with only english articles but these have to be unique

    Okay!
Did anyone else do this? I'm still wondering about what a good backlink profile would look like for a german website

I do not know on German specifics... While, in general, there might be small differences for non-english sites. In Russia, for example, we have Yandex as a main SE nowdays (for general audience). Respectively, rules of games are similar but definitely different - robots, maps and geo, videos, ranking etc. - one set of rules for Yandex, another for Google, while general principles are similar of course. As for conextual links, for Google I do not see differences.

You probably want to do at least half your links from German language pages. Do your research from google.de instead of Google.com.

I recommend you to build your own blog network...

Publish content in german and maintain the websites....If you buy 10-15 domains ...its enough ...you will get enormous backlinks......

    hey Liaata...
...i am asking myself the same as i am soon going to have the same situation in front of me - for ranking a clients website.

i guess one really good way would be blognetworksservices advice - but this of course will be a bit of more work to do. i don`t know exactly but i guess your competition isn`t too easy too beat - as from looking for receipts i see some big boys there. so putting in the mentioned effort in building your own netwotk will really help.

another thing you could actually do would be to do a multi-language site and translate your stuff into english too. so you cann fetch backlinks from english sites as well - and maybe traffic too. ever thought about that?
as far as i see german cooking sites do not do that.
    should help you i think.

    lieben gruß.

Hi Liaata ... until a few month ago all my websites were in one language (not english nor german) and the best thing you can do is to build backlinks with the same language. For me it worked best when i added a company website in directories and announcements websites but in the language of the website . They might not have as high PR but in time they pay off.

Also i recommend checking backlinks of your competition in the same language and so you can get some nice places to promote yourself.
