I have set up my first site, and want to start ranking it(no seo experience). I have been reading a lot about seo on this forum and my on-site seo is taken care off. But it is my off-site seo is where I get worried a little. My site is in Dutch, and there is little information on the forum on how ranking foreign sites work. This might be because there is no difference in the approach, or that there are simply very few ranking non-english sites.

There are great services being offered on bhw, but I wonder if they would actually do my site any good because it is dutch.

Most of the times local oriented sites are easier to rank and same on and off-site rules apply, only thing I suggest is to not to over do back linking, in my experience local sites need less links to rank well.

you should check some well-ranked sites in english and translate it's content-try to look for the most popular articles.
Then do some keyword research and compare them in Dutch, you will see then if people in your country are looking for the same information.
Then REWRITE those translated articles, add some informations from you and voilla - you have 100% unique content which you can spread over social networks etc.
