Hello.

I am trying to rank a dot com in a developing country.

The problem is it's keyword positions are performing better in the international english SERPS i.e US/UK/AUS/CA than the mother country. It is ranking quite well internationally with some page 1/2 results. The SERPS are not that competitive.

The website content is in english. However the articles are related to places in the said developing country.

The website is roughly 6 months old. Has a few back links and decent onpage SEO.

I didn't use a country specific domain because the said country has quite a large diaspoara who would be interested in my site.

Now normally people would suggest getting Backlinks from country specific domains. Trouble is apart from a few big brands the SERPS are not filled with domains that have much back links.

Secondly there are pretty much no good country specfic backlink sources except maybe news outlets. I have reached out to a few and they are quoting 100s of dollars for a single article. I personally think this money is better invested in social as it's cheap to advertise in the developing country.

Thirdly a lot of the potential backlink sources that are ranking in the said developing country are actual dot coms! Which is no good...

What do people suggest I do? Do I just wait it out and give Google time or do I need to do something?

Thanks.

i know exactly what is going on with your situation. getting your dot com ranked #1 at google.com using US ip address, but using local IP address it does not rank #1.

here is how I fixed it: i got more backlinks from IPs that are hosted in that country. that is what fixed it.

take a look at semrush, IP location section for your site and your competition. Your competition probably has more percentage of their backlinks from IPs from that country vs you.

You should get backlinks from targeted country tld and preferred domain hosted there.

Apart from this if your "targeted country" is the only country that you wanna rank in , target domain to that specific country via search console. But, do it wisely as it will bring all other countries traffic down.

You can try setting up a PBN In your country and get use those link to boost your website in your region.

When you say IP that means where it is hosted right? Not the ccTLD?

If so. Most of the sites in the SERPS are hosted abroad. Hosting providers in the said country are not good/reliable.

The thing with back links is most of the sites are not of real quality plus the fact that the good ones are probably hosted abroad.

I don't want to just get general backlinks, only ones that will help me rank in the said country.

Use language of the country you want to target on your website

Backlinks from the country ip & country tld should help. Problem is the quality of sites are poor and there is not exactly a wide variety of relevant domains to link for. The better ranking domains are dot coms.

This may be the only solution. And given the quality of sites at the moment I could maybe get the PBN ranking quickly. The thing i fear though is a google penalty...

The language is English. For professional business. Anyway.

Then pay someone in that country and create your on blog network. You will need 5-10 sites create 30-40 blog post on each. Make them of high metrics and most probably you will get results.

can you share the GEO distribution percentage from the following page for your site and competitors? you dont need to mention your country, just say "my country" for your actual country. so it would be like
1. US 45%
2. My Country 34%
3. Germany 29%
4. etc
