Ranking a .BIZ?

So, there's a .BIZ domain that is one word I'm interested in. Its a city/town/area name. First off, would it make sense to buy a .BIZ domain for a location if I wanted to target more than businesses in that location like tourism etc. Secondly, would it be hard to rank this semi emd .BIZ?

The owner is looking for $5K+

(has 0 backlinks and 0 PR)

The thing is, almost all of the other realistic domain names for the place are taken. And literally all .COM and variations except for a few net and orgs. But even though its a .BIZ its a super simple domain....

What exactly do you mean by "semi emd" ?
Sometimes it's just better to get an aged domain with a small relation to your topic than a bad emd with a not so popular TLD.

5k$ for .biz with no pr and backlinks, wow, very much. Honeslty most of the people don't even know that that type of domain exist, most of them type on every word .com or .net

.biz sites can rank very high however I consider them to be second tier domains. If your content and link building strategies are good, it will rank, however it seems like there is like 20% (from my gut and experience stat) more work required to get them as strong as .com, .net or .org's. If it is a good exact match domain then it prbly is worth the money, however it will take more work than normal. I have ranked hundreds of .biz's and I prefer .us domains, check to see if that is available cause .us's always look better when trying to localize content, I am not suggesting to go with .us's whenever trying to localize sites but it just looks better and .us rank easier. Anyways that is just what I have observed over the past few months. Hope that gives some insight.

I would try and stick will a .org, .net, or .com. From what I have read they are easier to rank. If you can't get one, don't give up. Just buy the .biz and you can make it work. I wish you luck.

Semi, about half of the searches are including the state, and a bunch of others have a st abbv.

.biz domains can rank fine.

In some cases, for my experience, if they are used for general topic... they need more initial work to rank... but at the end they will rank fine.

I personally wouldn't pay someone $5k for a domain if it is a .biz one and if you aren't 100% sure it's a good pick.

As you stated, you are after tourism and other keywords, as well. I recommend you buy national domains rather than a general .biz.

Just my two cents.
