Fellow BHers, a call for ya all..

I've been working on the content & SEO for one of my clients' and now ranking #1 & #9 for 2 keywords that have decent competition in Google.

The thing is, I'm ranking @ AOL.com, not Google. The traffic is really poor, say 5 to 10 visitors a day hardly.

Content: I'm posting some 2 to 4 articles per week on the site
SEO: I'm creating profile links & yet to build web 2.0 properties for the same

What am I doing wrong? Why I can't rank in Google?

Note: The target audience is UK

Aol shows results from google,so check again

How old is the site? Are you using UK based web hosting? What sort of competition do you have for exact match?

OP - you are posting articles on the site and building backlnks with profile links only, you have to diversify your backlinking, create backlinks via web 2.0 propertys, article directories, profiles and blog comments.

Keep building backlinks, it will take time and effort to rank with Google

All the other search engines have a tiny market share compared to Google so ranking top in them and not Google won't get you much traffic at all. As others have said, diversify your links, build more links but different kinds, not just profile links. Then you'll soon start to rise on Google as well.

If you're looking to rank UK, I believe you should build backlinks with a focus on co.uk sites. I don't know if this is common sense or if I'm just making it up, but of my 100 sites, most rank poorly in the UK google except for the 2 or 3 I build links for on .co.uk sites.

As for AOL search, it gets even less searches than Yahoo and Bing. I wouldn't even pay attention to that search engine.

what is the keyword used? you might rank #1 for a keyword that no one searches for

look I rank #1 for jfksdjflkdjf

That's a bit strange beeing sayed.

LOL.. I'm trying to rank but this is odd and I was kinda confused.. which is why I'm here

Hosting is UK based.. Exact match is around 1,200/mo

Hopefully :)

I see.. but I was wondering like "I'm trying to rank #1 on Google.. but how did I rank #1 on AOL"

As I said, the keyword I'm targetting gets 1,200 EXACT searches/mo

Nothing to say except keep your SEO ongoing. Try to add more fresh content and send the link to the popular bookmarking sites. Keep diversification in link building. As you're already in a good ranking in the SE, so traffic will definitely make and will return frequently If they find something useful. So keep more attention on the content updating.

you share your URL in Google group and Press release. I hope it will provide you huge traffic.

Create back links for your site in location .UK.
And share your URL in press release.
Definitely you get rank in Google.

nowadays people like to recycle, even posting too.

For this issue, You have to start working on Local SEO for a targeted domain.
This helps your website in improving its ranking.

You seriously expect to rank with profile links in 2014/2015? You need plenty of contextual links from authority domains.
