    Hello all,

Something unusual happened, today I got a site ranked on first page for a keyword with 1.2k local monthly searches several hours after being indexed. The only backlinking done was no more than 10-15 high PR links.

Now I really want to do some extensive backlinking since my main keyword is with about 8k local monthly searches and some significant competition. Should I wait a few days before I do any additional work, perhaps more? The domain is about a week old.

Yes, hold off on the backlinking. Slow it to a natural rate, and keep slowly building links to the page that got the ranking. I call this a "link velocity spike". Basically, if you add a decent amount of backlinks in a short amount of time, Google will rank the page... but not for long. Think celebrity gossip or nationwide news reports... they rank in hours after posting, because they get so many links. But those posts don't usually last long, they'll be gone in a few days. Consistency is key.

I would keep building natural looking links and I wouldn't be surprised if your site settles back to the 3rd or 4th page.

Just do some by hand links the first week and ask your FB friends to go to the site and wander around and give you feedback on the new project. Mask visits to link ratio. Nothing scrams Flag me like 500,000 links and 20 visits.

Okay, thanks to everyone for the input. The site moved back to second page for the low competition kw, not ranked at all for the main one. I'll wait a couple of days and slowly start diversifying backlinks.

Google boosts new sites for a few days to 2 weeks. Thats why. Build backlinks consistently.

I ALWAYS wait two weeks before I start linkbuilding.
