Ranked first, but getting no traffic

Try using http://www.google.com/insights/search/ and search your keyword, then try search your keyword by country or period of time, etc., maybe that keyword has diferent trafic levels along the year.

Thats a damn good tip m0nd0. I spent a week working on what I though was a great keyword. 8000 searches a month and literally no competition.
Got the number 1 spot in G but no traffic.
For some reason I decided to go to goggle insights. Well I'll be damned! All the searches where coming from the Netherlands.
After that I check all keywords there to make sure its mainly U.S. traffic.

i think the problem was with the stats shown on the adwords tool - this has happened to a lot of people. Will they every change it and show the real results??

I think that you must hire someone to do good SEO for you.
One of my friends was having the same problem a few days ago.

Well not all keywords are the same, but in my experience, you should still be seeing some traffic even at #8. I'm ranking for a keyword that has similar search statistics, and I'm getting hundreds of AS impressions per day being ranked at #11.

hey schnibitz, I wouldn't know about Adsense Impressions as I am waiting a couple weeks to age the domain a little. I read somewhere on BHW that you may get better ad CPC if you wait a couple months before placing adsense on your site.

Traffic is not too impressive at this point though. AWstats reports 12 UV a day while g00gle analytics says 6 a day.

try word tracker for the traffic volume estimation. Adword tool is not reliable.

Dude! GO BACK TO BASICS!!!!! (I mean this in a friendly way)

Ranking well is only half the battle... the click involves a human looking at the page and saying your listing is more like what they were hoping to find than the other listings on the page.

You gamed rank. Good work... now you need to use psychology to earn the click. Be sure your summary text is telling the searcher what they want to hear...

example... search for wow gold...

a lot of sites advertise $5-7 per 1K... but none of them deliver on that... but guess who gets clicked first, second, third, and not at all?

If you want human clicks you ultimately need to return to the same fundamentals that have been taught since the 1950's.

Sh*t man, you're right. I should be getting a lot more traffic from this rank already. And the description needs to be nailed. I just finished writing one that uses more aggressive tactics.

George's Brown Google Sniper will you please share this software with me.

Hey hciic, Google Sniper is in BHW do-not-share list, but it may still be available at:

The method is pretty straight forward. It is based on KW=TLD plus wordpress.

Is it an evergreen keyword that gets traffic daily? Or it is seasonal and possibly spikes during the year?

It is a TV show, so you're right, people don't watch too much TV when they can enjoy the outdoors. According to Google Keywords thought (exact match), the search volume in August was 27,000. I'm starting to doubt google keyword stats, but haven't found any other accurate tools yet.

the only way i know of getting accurate and timely traffic estimates is to run an adwords campaign for the keyword and check the impressions. make sure you bid high enough to land your ad on page 1 (top 8 or so ads) and also make doubly sure your ad is so bland/revolting nobody clicks on it. like:

iphone ad
not the best prices, shipped within 6 weeks, but we try hard.

LOL! I'm loving this technique, so thanks given. I wonder why people wouldn't click on an ad when they know we are "trying hard"

@medway, thanks for the tip. I was looking for something like these search engines for FF, but the ones I found didn't work. I'll test this one out. So far, it looks good and is showing me on position 8 as if I was loggued out.
