I am ranked #1 for a few search terms and I am getting about 15-20% of the exact searches that google says are searching each month. When I look at my web anayltics they give me extremely weird numbers. Is this the same for everyone else using google webmaster tools?

I am ranked #1 or 2 for all of these terms and as you can see I'm not getting the appropriate amount of clicks. And yes, my site is on topic and is what the searcher is looking for.

care to share how you attained #1? :) u can pm me as for the question, i have not been #1 YET, so i do not know im sorry

1. poor page title
2. poor description

That is all you have to sell them on clicking your site.

THIS! Now that you're number one you need to entice searchers to click on your website. Try testing out some different titles and metas and see what works best.

Have your title in more appealing way to attract the visitors. Compare yours with the people who are on #2, #3, #4 spots and analyze whats lacking.

Does GWT list your "Avg. position" at 1.0?

Also what do the serps look like for that term? If there are ads, product listing, g places, the #1 organic listing could be #15 on the page.

maybe start at the beginning, keyword research. you mess that up then...

This is the screenshot from Webmasters. Do you have Analytics installed? What do the numbers there say?

Where are you getting your stats from? I bet if you used a better analytics program you would get more specific statistics. Sorry for spelling I've been drinking.

Youre most likely not ranked #1 for most parts and/or your title tag/description really sucks. Try using firefox private browsing or chromes incognito and then try searching for your term to see if its not the 'logged in' illusion. Also google webmaster tools has you listed as AVG position as #1? If so, then its the title tag/desc

Sometimes if your site is on a bad host (I had this problem) you will lose a lot of traffic.

Also - you need to optimize your title and description for your meta tags.

Check with incognito mode too.

or your stats are wrong

or the search volume is wrong (there is no traffic)

or you are logged into google when checking your number one ranking (which means your #1 ranking is not real)

I don't give a rats ass what your title/desc. is, if you are number for real and there is volume of search each day. . you get clicks. . . PERIOD!

You are not ranking 1st. You are probably logged in on google or something. Try to google your query through a hidemyass or something.

It is impossible to have such stats and ranking first. Because CTR to your site from google SERP is important signal for google.

The impressions in your stats suggest your keywords are getting visited, so the low clickthrough rate would suggest that your title and description does not offer what potential visitors searching for that keyword need.

Take a look at the titles and descriptions for sites ranking at 2 and 3, and reword your title and description so they are similar but are not exactly the same as theirs. Then trial for a month to see if you gain any more clickthroughs to your website.

The problem with changing the title and description is sometimes that this is what gave you the number one ranking in the first place.

Try exactly copying #1 adwords ad for your keywords (by changing your title and description).

other option: people are searching specifically for something and you're ranking ahead of what they're looking for

for example: they're searching for "coca cola webiste" and your domain is something like "cocacolawebsite.com"

I am guissing it is a ranking problem as well, ie you are not nr 1

Have the keyword in the beginning of the page title and description so the keyword shows up in the serps, people look for the most relevant page for their search query.

That is wired. You must update it and add lots of new content that is very useful so that people love to visit that frequently and refer to their friends. Please do lots work on social networks.
