Rank with no SEO?

yeah, it all depends on the competition and the niche....

it also depends on the articles, if they are pretty good, you will rank easily your webpage.....

If you write enough content you get fortunate with things. You can rank randomly like Bostoncab says. There are many pieces to Google's algo, and great content doesn't mean you will rank, but the way you write and the combinations of words you use my just cause you to rank for keywords that bring a little traffic here and there. Give it a shot if you are broke, or don't have money to invest in link building and see what happens.

Thanks for all the insights guys. It seems as though the best approach to this is some semi-manual tiered link building with great care.

Agrees...EMDs is definently not important today its better to buy an expired domain you can use or do a 301 with the ExpDomain after u rebuilt the old website added some fresh content and backlinks to a new domain thats brandable and perhaps contains 1 keyword out of the phrase you want to rank for..EMDs has lost all power..my 2 cent

EMD's have lost all power, funniest thing I have read all year, thanks for the laugh.

What about writing loads of content and no backlinking and ranking for loads of low competition keywords?

I have an unrelated question and do not want to start another thread so. Which theme is best for authority sites? I mean free ones because I am not ready to invest money in a theme. Which ones do you use? I do not mind investing $20 or so in a theme.

Thank you guys for all your help. I am really learning from this.

bet you cannot outrank me doing that, or not doing that, as the case seems to be

It really depends on what you are going for, for example if you are going for pay day loans, it quite simply is not going to happen.

I probably should have mentioned that the competition will be from easy to medium competition at most.

Easy to medium you are likely to get long tail traffic if you have enough content.

Matthew Woodward is 1/1,000,000 but hey, if you try your hardest anything is possible.

Once again, for the sake of not making a new thread. I will just ask my question here.
I have heard things about competitors intentionally sending bad links to your site to make Google lower your rankings. How can anyone protect his or her site from that kind of nastiness?

Thanks again for all your help.

Honestly I do not see anyway to rank without doing some type of SEO since everyone and their mother is doing it to
improve their rankings. You have to play the game to win. Pure whitehat SEO is an illusion.

I recently changed up my companies blog to a different URL, mywebsite.com/category/blog -> mywebsite.com/blog, to try to SILO the site as much as I could with still making the navigation work. We dropped in SERPS most likely from doing this and 301'ing everything to the new blog. I wanted to see what happened and it sucked. But then I started going on a rampage posting new blog posts, with nothing else, just posting. I was doing about 1-2 a week, and trying to do 3-5 a week. Within a day we were ranking for new keywords and slowly gaining rank back for new keywords within 2 weeks. We are now back to being indexed within an hour of a new blog post. One thing I didn't change is having hootsuite and IFTTT posting to web 2.0's as my RSS feed is updated.

We have also picked up new in real life clients because they saw the passion I write the blog with. No one will ever tell me what keyword and search engine they found us with though.
