Does anyone know of an alternative for checking positions? Rank tracker was working fine but now its giving the wrong results all the time, not only the wrong results but sites like valuations that have a domain like

mydomain.valuationsite.com

Rank checker seems to think that the above would be my site, and it will say I am position 1,2,3 etc, I look and its nothing of the sort.

There are plenty of rank trackers out there that are very accurate.

I personally use SerpBook for my clients' reporting. :)

I use traffic travis but suggest serpbook as it seems more accurate in daily checking of ranking.

I use serpfox and serpbook, i get simmilar results from both of them.

Don't use Micro Site Masters. Perennially wrong reporting all round.

Go with serpbook or serpbuddy

I use authoritylabs, and use it for all clients too. Their results have been quite accurate - been using them for over a year; and they have public URLs which we share with our clients - so we don't need to send them ranking reports. Take a look. Cheers :)

One thing to consider about any online rank check service is that if you are targetting local keywords (city + keyword) just be aware that your results MAY be wrong most of the time. Usually the server hosting the application is in one city and the business you're trying to track is in another..and we all know how google loves to geotrack. So if that is important to you, inquire into whether the service offers tracking locally with local-centric proxies (ie - proxies based out of Houston if you want to track Houston based business keywords). Just some food for thought.

Go with SERPBOOK.
My personal favorite. Best tracker around!

Don't forget that a lot of keywords have different local results. For example I have a keyword sitting at 4# on a search-term which get's over a million in exact global searches, and still more than 700.000 in our country.

Thought if you look at the traffic, it's only ~200 a month, because for the keywords there are several other local companies in almost every city & Google is showing the Google Places results everywhere.

In my experience RankTracker has been quite good. The least reliable information has been from Google's own Webmaster Tools.

SERPbook is awesome plus very cheap to get started. Serpfox is popular also.

make sure your proxies are country relevant. Also make sure in settings you set the local search bias.

def serpbook they are by far the most accurate and very useful as a tool to have in your seo campaign :)

This sounds odd to me. I've been using rank tracker for three years now, and I haven't noticed neither rank inaccuracies nor changes in the performance lately. Perhaps we're talking about different tools. Are you sure you mean the rank tracker?

Also my guess is that the problem with the example you provide is subdomain ranking results that are included into the main project, but you can get rid of those in the settings.

I've just checked it out: you need to open Preferences (it's weird enough, but you need to open preferences as a separate window, it's not available in the dropdown) and choose Project Preferences and untick Include rankings of subdomains.

From watching my own clients I think there's the weekly minidance going on, seeing lots of results bouncing around.

Maybe what you're seeing is just the occasional SERP shift and then when you compare to RT's data you think it's a mistake. I am watching a site bounce between middle of page one and 2nd on page two, which if I were to track using a dedicated software would definitely look like an error to me.
