Rank the front page?

Published a site a couple of months ago and I am using Wincher and Serprobot to track the rankings. So far so good.
My question is, the rank trackers only pick up the sub pages and keywords from those pages. Not the front page/start page.
I have optimized the front page for a specific keyword and other long tail keywords but it does not show up in the trackers.

And yes, I have some backlinks pointing to the front page

Any ideas how to get the front page to rank as well?

In general the front page/homepage shouldn't be ranking for anything but the brand terms.

If you write more content, you've got a better shot at ranking on the first page of Google. The more you write, the more pages get indexed, and the more traffic you bring to your site.
