Hi Everyone, I have a site that is a good two years old now that recently lost rank for one of it's keywords. It was first page, then it fell to like 15ht page or something. I've seen this happen with new sites too. Wanted to find out if there is an easy way to make that not happen? Seems like that site had the best rankings when I WASN'T promoting for that keyword, and as soon as I started promoting, seems like it feel off the rankings. I promote with articles BTW.

Not too sure why it dropped so far, but you wouldn't get "penalized" for promoting your site. At this point all you can really do is sit back and wait while your rank is adjusted. But if you were on page 1, then you should very well end up back on page 1 with possibly better ranking. In the meantime I'd still go ahead and promote the site, build backlinks, etc.

Roger that, I'm definitely still building links. One thing I should note too is that several sites from the top 10 got blown out of the top ten recently too. Now I'm sorta wondering if this is something I can look forward to on a regular basis? Up until this year, this site has had solid first page rankings. Anyway, thank you for the insight.

I would guess, not able to say for sure, that you are experiencing the ole' google shuffle. When you start to gain links for a site google will throw your site all around the rankings and then eventually they will rest and you will have a semi-permanent ranking.

Basically to see such a huge drop in rankings is not all that uncommon, my sites bounce around all over the shop because Im doing recurring promotion. I find the biggest changes are when link velocity changes quickly, for instance no links then 50 in a day will result in a huge shift in both directions temporarily ill google finds its feet.

If you feel your site doesn't fit this description just leave some more details, Im sure someone will be able to help out.

Just try to build links gradually, i.e. starting with one or two then gradually build it up until you're building a number you can handle on a daily basis.

Seems like a good explanation. I'm going to operate on that theory until everything settles down. Thank you everyon!
