As crazy as it sounds, I had the idea from a guy who is following SEO Trends since 2006. I worked under him and learnt a lot on the matter.
He was the first to tell me SEO is not some blackhat method, it is actually encouraged by Google to help them with search results, and seo was meant to be completely whitehat.
So for didn't think much about it, but recently bought a new domain and got this crazy idea - to rank in google without any backlinks or social promotion.
Just by on-page seo, and thats it !
So I am trying my luck here, and so far looks good for a new site I bought on 2nd of this month.

Stats : 150+ search queries (3 my own keywords) ranked in 2nd to 10th page of Google.com , 500+ impressions, 250+ indexed pages after one week of heavy posting.

Will update 2-3 days alternate about the position. Inputs from seniors are welcome on whether or not this is achievable in long run.

What you have learned from 2006 should stay in 2006.

OK let say you and I are going for the same KW
You do a spotless on-page magic and you hope to rank
I also do that(because everyone knows on-page seo is important) and also have strong PBN link pointing to me

who will rank better?

There is no way in hell you will outrank me.

I know, thats why never tried to do so, you can call this a wild goose chase I guess ?

I'm not saying you will not rank. But honestly I can't see you ranking even in top 20 for hard or even medium KW's.
I wish you the best your experiment!

There was a similar journey, although that guy ended up with no traffic after 6 months. Lets see how it goes for you. I hope you're not one of them Matt Cutt's cats trying to promote "White Hat" SEO ;)

Absolutely possible to rank without backlinks.

Here are my stats with about 200 automatic posts on my blog

Didnt post one social signal or anything. Just targeted the good keywords and mass posted.

I will tell you what wil happen...

Offcourse you can rank without backlinks.
But if your on-page SEO is good and you add some backlinks the magic happens (1+1=3).
It's easier to get to nr 1 if you can start from nr 20 in stead of not in top 100.

It's certainly possible for low demand, long tail keywords and it is better not to build links in the first one or two months as they look suspicious; however, if you build good quality links later, they will surely boost your traffic.

It is definitely possible, but it could take you years and leave you exhausted. Keeping up with good quality content and on-site SEO to rank is pretty demanding and time consuming :/

Looking forward to your case study. Although you have a different sort of strategy here which i believe is duplicate or spun content being drip feed to your blog. I can see you ranking for a week then being pushed down hard in the results

I'm eager to find out how this will evolve.

I use a similar strategy for most of my websites. I target low competition keywords that receive 700+ searches each month, target the keywords in an article, and then create a new article. For most of the keywords I'm targeting, I'm ranking on the first page (usually positions 5, 6, or 7 on average). So far, I've been pretty successful with this strategy, although considering that I create almost all of my content (images, writing, websites, etcetera), this method can become quite time consuming (although I actually like it :)).

I spend about 1 minute per post. I post around 20 per day. I stopped cause I couldnt monetize the traffic yet. But thats a good spot. Fiding a niche and micro niche keywords

I have a blog, with no back links and get quite a bit of traffic and every day. The only problem? It'll be for nothing, if someone comes along with my same keyword and back links. If it is a very unused niche, you might get away with it. Otherwise, you're going to be in big trouble, once someone catches on :p

Wow! I spend anywhere between 10 minutes to 4 hours per post and I post a new article about 4-5 times per week. Sometimes, I even go back to re-optimise my older posts in the event that they didn't rank for the keyword I originally chose (I may create a BHW thread on how to do re-optimisation properly. It can mean the difference between a successful post and a post that's just taking up space on your website). Your strategy seems to be working out better and faster than mine, although I actually don't mind the "slow and steady" route. :D

Ok point to be noted here, all the content in the site are well written, no spun content
Also keywords are not long tail ones - so I dont think it will be so easy as some people have mentioned from their experience.
For example, the keyword which got second highest impression, has average 165,000 monthly searches in usa

do agree but hardly as simple as that. The time/money you've spent on that pbn link he'd of spent doing a extra article
