Rank high on Google without using much TEXT????????

Yes, it is very much possible. Recently I had a client looking for seo on local keyword. But the homepage was with no text; only one big image. The client did not agree to change the homepage, so we started doing seo for internal page, where we found a full page content surrounding the keywords. We were getting it hard to pull that specific internal page to first page. After a week, we accidentally used homepage url instead of internal page; and next day google ranked the homepage in top10. So there is nothing to surprise if someone is ranking without any content.
