Rank high on Google without using much TEXT????????

There's a poster who posts on the Warrior forum who claims to be able to get a high SERP ranking. He's known to be a huge fan of AdSense. It appears as if he makes a living from AdSense. He's well known on WF and from his post count you can tell that he posts there everyday, all day and all night. He likes to brag that he can get a high SERP without using much text. When people ask him how he is able to rank high using minimal text, or if it is even possible, he doesn't reply. I'm new to SEO and I thought authority sites that have a lot of text are the ones that rank high. Is it possible, post-Penguin, for an AdSense fan to rank high on Google on a thin site that doesn't use much text and if so, how is that possible?

As long as the site is unique and someone with experience will promote it,I see no problem in ranking it no.1.
Competition and other factors plays major roles aswell.

Can you drill down your answer a little? In other words, if his sites are not based around text, then what do you imagine he's putting on an AdSense flavored website that would allow him to rank so high? Authority sites are the ones that rank above all the others and they usually have a lot of text, no?

I agree! But even WF has a few shot callers that command respect. And the AdSense guy who claims to rank high using minimal text is a WF All-Star who's been around a long time and, based on his posting history, is clearly at the top of their food chain. The thing is, his credibility wouldn't last a nanosecond if he went around perpetuating a lie about ranking high in the SERP's using thin, AdSense based sites that have minimal text. Other shot callers high up on the food chain would call him out on it and slam him declaring him a fraud and ruining his reputation, but none of them have.

If I were banking seriously big money, would I be on the WF 247? No, only kids who talk shyte and have nothing better to fill their time would.

So is that to say that to say he's full of shyte when he says that he ranks high in the SERP's post-Penguin (and makes a living) with thin, AdSense-based sites that have only a small amount of text on it?
 
I am no AdSense expert, but if the site was shit with no content, wouldn't he get banned from AdSense?
 
WF is full of lier selfproclamer gurus and so on. I bet if you look carefully he must be selling a WSO.. that all about that forum, scamming noobs selling "methods"

Good point, but I'm no IM expert, let alone an AdSense or SEO expert. If he's using AdSense he has to be white hat, one would think. I don't know, you think he's getting ranked high by using mostly vids or jpegs on his site? I mean, if he doesn't rely on text to get a high ranking, is it possible he relies on videos and jpegs to rank high? Like maybe a ratio of 5% text and 95% vids & jpegs? Keep in mind he makes a living with AdSense so he must be getting a lot of traffic.

I scrutinized his profile, read many of his previous posts, and he never attempts to sell anything. And he has no link in his signature, so he's not trying to promote a product whenever he posts. And he stays away from the threads with titles like "Bring the Fresh, is it a good moneymaking course?" He never gives his opinion about other peoples products, he steers clear of promoting, or dissing, products made by other people.

Yes but this means nothing, he could be selling through PM, waiting for newbies to PM him for his methods, then he goes in for the sting.

You will also find what the WF is famous for is thread manipulation, where if anyone speaks out about certain members and their bullshit, the user is banned and the comment removed. Certainly not the kind of place where I would seek info.
 
If the phrase s unique enough, you can rank for it easily, even with minimal text. You could rank a page for the phrase "Moon over the Great wall of Tuscon" "or for that matter "girlfriend" name has the best ass in tuscon" because no one else is targeting that phrase. Then you can tell your girlfriend you looked it up and according to Google she has the best ass in Tuscon. I've done it as birthday presents for people plenty of times.

Even if there is a little competition, you can rise to the top with really tightly focused on-page SEO. If all things are nearly equal, and your on page SEO is better, Google will rank you higher than other sites.
 
I have several web sites that rank on the front page of Google and Bing. They are purely image based websites with no text. The only text is the title of the image. I have alt tags and meta tags. That's it.

So, it is possible.

The idea of needing lots of text content to rank, is a misconception.
 
Images are content.

I have that exact same experience. I have ranked pages that have nothing other than the keyword.

Some will say its a fluke and what not but consider this.

I had a page that targeted - City, State Keyword
page was up for months and ranked decent for that. Page had probably 300-350 word of text on it.

While updating site I accidentaly deleted all of the text, all that I had left was City, State keyword. I didn't know I did this until maybe almost 2 months later...while looking at analytics I see that I am getting traffic for City, State, I check and see that the page has nothing but

City, State Keyword in url
City State Keyword in title
City, State Keyword in h1 on the page
nothing else

and im on page 1 of google for City, State....there is no reason I should be, it's not a small little city, but I am.

My site is less almost a year old and has a bit of authority, but not for city, state keywords.

there are other examples of ranking photo pages in the serps, but not in the photo section of google, I mean ranking them as actual pages simply because they have the keyword as the title and alt.

I have seen it several times, ranking for keywords with barely any text. WOuldnt consider it a long term strategy but, it's happened to me.

There you go, that's an idea. I could always PM him and ask him if he sells a moneymaking course on the down low lol, that would stroke his ego. I read many of his posts. If I detected a hint of him trying to sell something or scam someone then I would not have started this thread. At this point, with the weight, credibility and respect that he has at WF, he'd be a fool to hide a product from the eyes of the public. It wouldn't make sense for him to wait around for people to PM him. That's a form of indirect marketing that's not the least bit profitable. Also, I spoke up LOUDLY about some things that weren't right with a course that is sold by a certain popular Internet guru that sells an affiliate marketing course. I was direct, I didn't mince words. I irritated one or two of his fans. The fans and sock puppets flamed away at me, but I wasn't banned, maybe I got lucky? Anyway, bottom line, this thread is not about verifying someones credibility who posts at another forum nor is it about comparing the Warrior forum against BlackHatWorld. Too bad I can't kidnap the AdSense guy, drag him over here, and hold him accountable about the claim he makes where he says that he ranks high in the SERPS using minimal text :cool:
 
Techxan, ryannull, Pilfer7, thanks for helping to clear up the mystery. I'm thinking a couple of things:

1) Half the battle, for many people, when building a Penguin friendly authority site is to generate a ton of text or pay content writers who list jobs at Elance or Odesk to write a ton of text for them. The former takes up a lot of time, the latter takes up a lot of time and money. Webmasters want their website on the first page of Google. Wouldn't they save a lot of sweat, time and money by building a website that content-wise, contained 5-10% text and 90-95% video/jpegs?

2) Let say you're a natural born writer, you love to write. Still, you know that thin sites with minimal content in the age of Penguin require you to add a ton of text to your website on a regular basis because you were told that visitors need to read quality content. You're forced to post quality content 4 or 5 times a week to get to page 1 of Google and to keep visitors coming back for more. Posts to your website that contain 500-800 words and maybe even 1000 words per post. That's a lot of writing even for someone who's a gifted writer! Do you think you could rank on page one of Google and stay there if you had something like a vlog? For those who don't know, a vlog is a blog that content-wise, has a lot of videos with minimal text (5-10% text with 90-95% video content).
 
I ranked a lot of blank page with minimal onpage SEO (keyword in title, des, url, h1, image alt tag) in the first page with no problem.
 
It depends how useful that small amount of text is for the niche. You can rank anything depending on user experience. Good user experience means you will get natural backlinks and social shares which shows google your site is useful.

People sometimes worry about the amount of content rather than the quality and purpose of that site which is why a lot fail.

That is my opinion and what I have learnt from personal experience with clients and myself.
