Ok! Let me explain this to you....
The first tier of the linkwheel is the foundation on which your money site will be built. So it should look good and have some power/authority on it as far as SEO is concerned. Now you need something to support this foundation, certainly you don't want to spend long nights trying to build white hat sites, that where i use autoblogs. Create loads of them.... once they are set up spend some time indexing them and your foundation site.
Now, you can start spamming your autoblogs or whatever you used for that matter. The spammed pages will pass link juice to autoblogs which will pass it to foundation site.
The foundation should have many pages. Use some keyword targeted articles and point them to your money site. This will create a highly Relevant link neighborhood with good link juice to get your site ranked.

This is very interesting. I created a link wheel for a customer last week. He had a highly competitive keyword phrase. We got the #1 position in Google with only 7 different properties! We did not use any spam. I do not believe link wheels are black hat. My opinion of course.
In addition, my client has 2 of the SERPS on the 2nd page. He also ranks well for many variations of the keyword phrase.
All the properties were professionally built and will last a long time. All my client has to do is post from time to time in his properties and ping. He should end up dominating that 1st page.
My client had a very Merry Christmas as he sold allot of product.
Saying this, there are certain aspects of this link wheel that I like and may incorporate in the next linkwheel that I build.

I actually went in and took the time to edit it so it would be easier to read for everyone. I know it doesn't work but at least you will be able to read it! lol
