You need to improve the quality of the article I guess. If your article provides a great value, google will rank the similar keywords automatically. Also, don't overdo with the keywords in the articles. You can publish more high-quality articles focusing on the other long-tail keywords and do internal linking. Build quality links with diversified anchor profiles.

Yes its possible to do that, there is more type of keywords as well, Long tail keywords, Generic and etc, You can use something like that

How are you sure that you rank for ONLY one keyword? Google sometimes misreports the data.
