Rank for a single word KW?

Hey,

Been posting to my site for around 6 weeks now and generally things are looking good.
A minimal of off-page SEO have been done, and we mostly focus on on-page SEO.

I am wondering about one thing in particular...

Lets say I want to rank for "Shoes"
I have created a few different posts targeting "Shoes" as well as 5-7 other posts targeting

Red Shoes
Blue Shoes
Best Shoes
Nice Shoes
etc...

I have then tagged all the posts as "Shoes" (domain/tag/shoes)

But still no damn rankings for "Shoes" Argh!

I have 4 other main keywords, using same tactics and same result! All the 2 word KW's are ranking, but the single one word KW wont rank!

I have noticed an odd thing in Google Console... I have a few impressions for all 5 main KW's and they are listed as in position 30ish, but only for 1 day.

1. Am I doing things wrong and/or do I just need more patience?
2. If we decide to make off-page links, which url should I use, the domain/tag/kw or to either of the posts?

I forgot to mention...

The "Tag" pages were just created a few days ago. Also, we keep adding content targeting the KW and assign the main KW tag to it as well.
The way I see it is that the "Tag" page keep getting more and more content and should eventually rank - correct?

So, you checked the competition for these KW?

And having a good site structure is not enough for SEO, you will be needing quality BL.

Did not check in-depth, but reaching top 10 should be very very doable. So basically I will need off-page SEO done?
Can that be on blog platforms for example?

If you didn't check in-depth making statement like "but reaching top 10 should be very very doable."are pretty hollow.

That is one of the many possibilities.

Targeting tag pages isn't good idea imo, because it has dynamic content so your ranking will not be constant. So better target pages or posts.

usually these are very competitive informational searches. are you sure you want to spend dollars for such a keyword?

Find an EASY or low comp keyword, be it one or multi-word, and you can rank it, same procedure as usual.
