Let's say a specific URL on my website is in the 20th position for a specific keyword.

If I make 2-3 articles in my blog (same website) SEO optimized with that specific keyword with internal linking to that specific URL how can I rank higher?

what are the next steps? buy backlinks for the blog post?

what is your SEO routine after uploading a blog article?

Instead of different articles add more backlinks to it, and add fresh content you can do a audit of the first ten pages for your keywords and then implement the changes
 
First to buy backlinks are good with clean and after add the unique content that related to keyword.
 
I would suggest to not go for 2-3 articles for same keyword instead I would suggest you to go for related keywords and interlink them. I this way your already indexed article will rank up and more keywords will be added in your arsenal....

point is my articles are not indexed.. only the main URL that is linked to those articles

Focus on building relevant links to inner pages while you keep on adding content. Guest posts also helps a lot.
 
Get back links from high profiled websites for the long tail keywords, generic keywords.

Optimize your keywords on meta title, description, and H1 tags. As well you should have few social media traffic.

Also do the competitors reasearch for the keywords you targeting. So that you can improve the content and other more SEO needs.
 
You can create tire1, 2 , 3 all links for your websites. Like PBN, Web 2.0 , Authority links etc... Its usefull for you.
 
Use social media to help boost your site rankings - remember, you must optimize your social profiles to rank on search results
 
The idea behind creating more content for a particular niche is that you tell 'Google' that you know what you are doing & that you are an authority in the said niche.
This means that if your site is about a tree then you have a post for the roots, trunks, branches, leaves, fruits, flowers and so on.
Everything will be inter linked to each other but keep in mind that roots and trunks are more relevant to each other than posting pages on red leaves, yellow leaves and orange leaves.
Keep posting good content and creating good links. Interlinking won't bring you much juice.
You get that from outside. Strong links, PBNs, etc.

SEO routine would be to optimize it acc to the main kw, build some links to it, watch it get indexed and then work from there depending upon its position in the serps.
 
Internal links should do some work, especially if you link from prominent pages like the home page.
 
Yes, do internal linking and start build or buy links to your blog posts.
 
Yah, you can post articles with different anchor text on the same URL and create new backlinks for the blog URL.
