Rank Articles of Pages?

I have a blog with a lot of high quality 100% unique articles on it. There are about 5 categories, I want to know if I should be focusing on ranking the categories or actually be more concerned on ranking the articles.

I assume it would be easier to rank the articles and I could get a cumulative amount of traffic that would surpass that which I would get if I ranked the category.

So, I plan on still SEO'ing the categories and home page as well but should I put more efforrt into the articles?

seo the inner-pages and article of your blog, the homepage and categories will rank for itself and will take less time for seo.

I would suggest you to target the main keywords by creating pages and supporting them by giving the internal link juice by creating blog posts and pointing them to those pages. Avoid ranking categories as they tend to be broad and unspecific.
