Do not use duplicated content not safe at all

Sites can rank with other peoples content but the trick is to break it up in to small chunks and use multiple sources. So 20 or so citations. In the eyes of google its not really duplicate content then. In my experience anyways.

i have ranked multiple sites with duplicate content but for short term only you will get a penalty after some time

I have a website which contains some useful info related to the content with text pulled from API. Right now I'm ranking but for the main pages, which are not connected to the inner pages where the copy content stays. I don't have a WP with posts its custom build data scraper...So far I'm on the #1 for serval high volume KW for about 4 months... hope I don't get the hammer.

From my own experience, I have one autoblog site build 4 years ago that still rank well and bring 10k traffic a day from completely duplicate content pulled from rss feed of other sites. It survived from panda, penguin, etc update from Google before, lol.
