Rank #1 in organic rather than Places

Hey guys,

Sorry if this sound easy but I don't know anything about Google places/local.

I have a friend who has a 10 year old website which used to rank #1 for a local Keyword. (very low comp)
Now the problem is that he is ranking #1 for Google Places, and not anymore in organic. There are 3 organic results before places, so he is #4.
The website ranking #1 has less than 10 BL and is a few months old...

How to make the website rank #1 for organic rather than places?

I have done this with high PR blog posts.

So I should just build more authority BL to the main site and the website will rank instead of the google+ page ?

With the new Google + roll out its hard to say if you will be able to for much longer look at Google Carousel for instance

Yes, I'd go with this. And what will work even better is if you build more tiers to link back to your tier 1 links. Make sure they aren't spammy though, but if you make them of good quality, it seems Google loves this atm from my experience.

I am sorry to say that there is not any fix technique to get a better ranking in the search engine after the new updates of the Google but i think quality content writing and posting it on the high page rank sites can help you more than the other techniques.

Update it every 2 /3 days with at least 500 words 100% unique content, sit back and wait untill it ranks #1 again.

If it hits #1 again, keep on feeding it with fresh content!

Fresh content + highly relevant and authoritative backlinks should get you up there. Focus on BLs with high PA and DA, not just high PR. Building your own PR network is always a good idea too, but expensive.

I've seen this happen on numerous sites. What appears to be going on is Google is adjusting their algorithms so that many of the ranking factors that used to heavily influence organic rankings, have been shifted over to having a heavier influence on the Local algo, and less of a factor on the standard organic algo. That's why the Local ranking goes up, but the standard organic goes down.

But remember, there's no reason not to rank for both. In order to do so you just have to target some of the ranking factors that are not necessarily in the Local algo.

I recently attached by website to Google Places and my rankings dropped to the 2nd page. I had been on the first page for over a year

Has this happened to anyone else?
