I've spent the last couple of months concentrating on my 'authority' site which continues to grow, and during this time, I've found myself having a good gauge on what it takes to rank keywords as they keep moving up the pages on a very difficult and broad niche.
That is a long term project though, so I thought I'd challenge myself a little on here by ranking a micro niche site and interacting a little more wth the community on a journey to Google's front page.
Selecting the Keywords
I've picked a decent niche - 7000 searches / on the on the main 'keyword reviews' search. I'd say this is a medium difficulty keyword. There are no huge authorities in my way, but some fairly strong sites sitting on page one. I have also identified 4 easy looking long tails with an average of 2000 per month. Product costs around $25 - $40.
I've deemed these keywords difficulty by studying the top couple of pages of competitors. I look at their backlinks, their authority and their content. Sitting in position #6 for my main keyword is a direct competitor that I'm going to chew up and spit out. Their on-page looks decent, but their backlinks are wide open and I should be able to blast them out of the water (Unless of course they have a hidden PBN, but it doesn't seem to be the case).
Plan
There is no Voodoo here. I have a two stage attack - PBN posts (on my own network) which is like my artillery and sniffing out competitor links and copying / bettering them - these are like my special forces. I'll also be doing manual Web 2.0 / social media stuff to keep everything well balanced (these can be the field medics ;-).
I'll be doing most things myself to start. I build the PBN sites myself, scrape the domains myself (though I've been buying some decent ones on here as well when my scrapings are a bit short), write most of the content. I will mix things up with a few purchases of links and services down the line as momentum starts to build.
Status
Site is built, homepage and three reviews done - all written by myself. The site has been sitting for a couple of weeks whilst it was indexed. It's now indexed and we're ready to go.
