Raffles anyone?

I thought that it might be a nice touch to add a raffle to a site where you have pretty steady traffic, or make a site just for raffles. What do you think? If you raffle something like and iPod or something smaller like a gift certificate at a dollar or two per ticket you could make lots of money, right? What could go wrong with it? Set up a date and make sure you have enough money to pay for it. Start off small and then work up to more desirable items. You get it on digg and then you're set i would guess. Anyone wanna go in on a joint venture?

The legality of it just isn't there for most people.
While violating a TOS is one thing that kind of cross state/national lines thing can get one in to a heap of trouble. Most places have a well regulated system for this kind of thing.

Otherwise you would see real non profits doing it to raise money for their stuff.

wait, i'm saying that i plan on actually sending the product. I suppose this wouldn't be blackhat, but you can fake testimonials and stuff, right?

raffles are just illegal if you don`t have the right licenses and stuff.

you could have them enter the raffle by having them complete a cpa offer. Just find a one page one that pays $1 or 2. You could set that up some how and I believe that would be totally legal.

Enter to win a plasma TV, gas card, Ipod, Iphone, etc.... there are plenty of those.

thats actually really clever! never realised a work around existed.

There are 2 raffle sites i know of, 1's for very expensive cars & 1's for a house. But they have some serious money behind them so i'm guessing they have a legal team thats sorted it out etc.

Or they're based in panama or somewhere =P
