I read a thread a little while ago that ran me hot, and I just want to clear something up for anyone who feels the need to post anything of the sort again.

If you post a thread complaining about how well someone speaks a language, the way people from a certain culture do business, or anything that is directly pointing out another nationality, falls under either racist, bias, or prejudice, and is against bhw rules, and will not be excepted threads by our members.

Well. It wasn't directly pointed at any one individual community. That thread may have some honesty in it. Because, people may expect a certain level of readability when they come on forums. I would personally not consider it a hindrance of any sort on BHW. But, it may irritate someone who expects a good read.

Some people lack in some area while excelling in others. It's a matter of fact that people whose first language is not english will not be as proficient as a native speaker/writer. But, they make it up by their expertise in other areas. Plenty of people on BHW whose written skills are bad but they have made it big.

I am personally not bothered by it probably coz I'm not a native speaker. There are diamonds in the rough. Although, what someone might have written may not make a good reading, but the info could be valuable as gold.

If anyone said anything remotely degrading then yes, I can see your point. However, in my experience, Indian writers do not write content as well as an American. it's just a fact. True, there are diamonds in the rough, and that's true. I've met some amazing foreign programmers and designers. Just in the overall sense, people are entitled to their opinion as long as its not something like " Screw Indian people" then I think BHW should be just fine.

people from different cultures do do business differently. the u.s. currently is "seller beware", most other countries are "caveat emptor". of course people doing business with cultures whom which they are not familiar are going to experience differences, and those differences are cultural.

I think he didn't mean native english speakers as "arrogant assholes" but he meant the "arrogant assholes" who are "native english speakers"

Dude, don't start a flame war. He wasn't calling everyone "native english arrogant assholes" All he said was, there were a few of native english arrogant assholes that are making others look bad. Just similar to how some "Indian asshole scammers" make the rest of us Indians look bad.

Doesn't surprise me that some feel that way, at all. Just got back from a trip to Hong Kong, and yes, I'm as American as can be (I sort of stand out @ 6'1 250lbs ;) ) Saw a lot of discrimination towards me in that I am an American (Loved drinking with my Aussie and Brit friends though!), but it was all good. I get why some people don't like us..

Now, there's one thing to suggest to have tolerance for everyone, and then another to state an opinion about something. One thing this board should NOT be about is censorship. In America we have a saying about being or not being "PC" - politically correct. There are always certain ways to shape your words to get the point across, it doesn't always have to be two gun barrels levelled downwards, damn the torpedo's and fire away..so to speak.

The point is this, if RedClover feels the need to express that he's tired of English as being a dominant language, it's his opinion. I think it's laughable what he said, but he's entitled to his opinion. See, my statements are that of someone who is coming from a mature and readied viewpoint.

I am well experienced with Hong Kong and have nothing but good things to say about how I am treated their.
It is a plain fact that you never see other cultures asking us to adapt to their language. As far as standing out...Sure that is
true. But the discrimination is something I never experienced. I have faced more polarization in my home country.

I have said it before, and I will say it again. BHW takes pride in being a
diverse forum that welcomes members from all over the world. If
someone has a problem with the way a member speaks or writes
simply because English is not his or her primary language, then keep
it to yourself. It is not difficult to understand what someone is saying,
even though their spelling and grammar may not be perfect.

And finally, it is the staff's job to make sure that EVERYONE feels
comfortable and free from discrimination on our forum. If we see
people bashing someone's race or religion, they will be banned.

It is as simple as that . . .

shit - I enjoy the mix of cultures here.

I do lots of business with india and this forum has opened my eyes as to how varied and different that country can be. As I tend to only see a very stereotypical indian in my line of work, and am glad that I had my eyes opened mainly by this place

I think its better to focus on the member as an individual and not as a group or race or religion if you have issues to sort out .

I saw one thread where the OP opened the door for people to make comments about what what this race was like, that country was like, etc... and everyone in the thread was quite comfortable saying only positive things about the various categories of people.

I think it's a bad idea to allow even positive stereotyping to be posted. It's just bait, is never going to accomplish anything constructive and it's just a matter of time before someone shows up in the thread to disagree with all the positive statements and say instead "Oh, I think those "X" people are some of the most dishonest and stupid people ever. I like "Y" and "Z" people, but that guy that said "X" people are intelligent was just plain wrong. They will sell their own sister to make a profit.

Then the guy gets banned or whatever for coming off "x-ist", but the door was opened when the OP troll started the thread and Staff did not immediately shut it down.

I called the OP stupid in one such thread, because he was. And risked getting neg-repped or worse maybe by Staff that might not like such a tone, but it's fully deserved. It's just simply flat-out stupid, in the middle of a forum dedicated to the idea of making money, to risk alienating and angering people along stupid and useless lines such as race, color, nationality, etc... and even if the generalizations are positive it's still a stupid thing to both do and allow.

And I think there is a difference between a passing comment, and a thread dedicated to the idea of discussing generalities regarding race. "Truth Thread: Are people from "X" race smarter than everyone else?" I'm like, why the hell would anyone light the fuse on that stick of dynamite? And are they going to then stand there stupid and innocent looking when the thing blows-up? I've seen Senior members and Forum Staff post in these threads. "Some of the best, most hard-working people I've ever done business with have been "Z" people." then invites some junior member to disagree and say that "Z" people are widely known to have sex with their own mothers. Or whatever. What happens then? A ban is what happens. There are plenty of things in this world to talk about; there is no need to go in that direction.

And if one MUST go in that direction, there are plenty of forums out there dedicated to the idea of exploring racial, national, cultural differences, etc... BHW is about money and certain conversational topics can only serve to interfere with the ability of the people here to make money.
