I’m doing some research into different Q&A platforms and content strategies, and I’m curious about how Quora, Reddit, and the old Yahoo Answers stack up against each other.

I know Yahoo Answers is dead now, but I’m still interested in how it worked back in the day, especially compared to how Quora and Reddit operate now. From a marketing, engagement, and SEO perspective, what are the key differences between the three?

Quora’s clean but hella moderated, Reddit’s raw and tribal, Yahoo was pure chaos energy back then.

i can give you quite some info on defunct yahoo answers, as that was my primary "reddit" before i migrated to reddit. basically. they allow you to post anonymously with no censure, as long as your not violating tos, they are not anal like reddit where they ban you if people will disagree with you regardless of opinions, so no moderation on the site, barring illegal materials.

Yahooanswers UI was much like Oldreddit, before it turned into the ugly new feature of infinite scrolling of new reddit, it was quite useful for people who are students in universities, because often times you could find answers, or similar questions to homework questions that they have(since most universities more or less use very similar textbooks to each other), its also obscure enough that you really cant spam with links or anything, so its quite niche in some cases. Qoura used to have much more restrictive moderation than reddit, but something changed and its a FFA, and the answers are rarely helpful, because they are just copypasted from google searches.

reddit was the catch-all for any news, politics, and personal interests all in one site. its very hard to replicate reddit clones on any other platform/site.

I miss the old yahoo answers. It was actually very helpful website and easy to navigate unlike Reddit.

I have no idea why people use Reddit. 98% of all topics are LОСKЕD and you cannot reply. In the rare chance that you can reply, some robot tells you that you replied wrong and threatens you.

Quora on the other hand, is just a complete DISASTER. This website is infested with spam, propaganda and fiction stories... EVERYTHING that is on the front page of Quora is fake or spam. If you don't believe me, just go look. Read a post and then reread it again. It's either some fake story or war propaganda.

It's really hard for me to fathom how so many people can be so gullible. I would've thought that the general public would have figured out that QUORA IS A SCAM and abandoned it, but apparently, people like to be lied to all day.

Haven't Tried The Yahoo one, but I have been using Quora & Reddit for a while, and I personally have seen that Reddit is more like Raw & Genuine whereas Quora is very filtered out.

This is just what i think However, i would be looking forward seing other old members' perspectives as well.

Seriously? I find that everything on Reddit is locked and follows in certain narrative while everything is FAKE on Quora.

I actually don't have much experience with Reddit. That website frustrates me to the point I want to smash my keyboard to oblivion. I hate how everything is locked, and you have to format your posts in a certain way. It feels constrained and fake

WHAT YOU WILL FIND ON THE QUORA FRONT PAGE:

FAKE FEEL-GOOD STORIES:
(that never happened)
Some courageous man saved a puppy from a burning building
A police officer bought a homeless man dinner.
A white person stood up for a black person and defended them.
AI pictures

PROPAGANDA:
Lies telling you how tеrrorists are actually heroes.
Atrocities committed by government is justified.
Justification for more censorship and losing your rights and freedoms.
Manufactured consent for a war

SPAM:
Long posts with link at the end to some weight loss website.
Paid advertisements disguised as questions

I have no idea why people use this website. I have a hard time believing that millions of people want to be spammed and lied to.

Quora beats them all, Reddit is very engaging and with many traffic but I prefer Quora more.

  • Quora: Focused on detailed, knowledge-based answers. It favors expertise, long-form explanations, and professional tone. Good for authority building and evergreen content.
  • Reddit: Community-driven and discussion-based. Content is raw, opinionated, and fast-moving. Engagement depends on subreddit rules and authenticity rather than expertise alone.
  • Yahoo Answers: Previously a casual Q&A platform with low content moderation. It’s now discontinued, making it irrelevant for current discussions or marketing.

Bottom line: Quora is best for credibility, Reddit for real conversations and trends, and Yahoo Answers is no longer a factor.
