First post here so don't laugh if it is stupid obvious, loving the forum picking up tons of info. I have searched this and sort of found some answers but was hoping to get a bit more help.

I have a couple of service business, we target many different towns (rural spread out area, so keywords are "my service my city") I have one main domain that ranks fairly well in each city, I then have multiple domains targeting that are EMDs for the different cities. As of right now I use mostly reseller posts on public networks to rank the main site (haven't gotten a penalty yet) I am a bit less cautious with the individual city EMDs and tend to use more comments forum sigs etc for those.

I would like to set up basically a three tiered setup were I have something that basically takes all the spam and then links to the individual city EMD's. These in turn link to my main domain and I get a double benefit from them. I was curious what should I use for this third tier? I am considering buying more domains with unique ips and setting them up as blogs to take the brunt of whatever spam i can dream up.

I know you guys know this 100 times better than I do, so I was just hoping to get a bit of input on whether this would be a waste of money/time.

Any help at all would be very much appreciated.

I wouldn't buy more domains... Why don't you try writing a few articles and spinning them. Then submit them to article directories with high PR containing links pointing to your EMDs, and then link your EMDs to your main site...

Public blog networks are probably not a good long-term strategy, as there tends to be obvious footprints with these, leading to deindexing. Google is becoming smarter and you need to randomize your backlinks where possible. You don't need to buy more sites for your Tier 2. Why not use a number of different platforms? Just one example is wikis...but there are many more. Try reverse engineering some sites' backlinks to get more examples.

Would it be safe to link the 3-4 emds together? Or should they only link to the money site?

I will consider this, I have never done the article directory thing.
I agree, completely the public networks were getting de indexed somfast it was getting to be a pain in the arse, I will try some wikis to the emds. I would love to reverse a ginger the competition, but my niche is so bass akwards that most of them just rank on domain age and citations. I have managed to beat most of them out, but it is just hard to keep the sites up at the top spot consistently my kw just seem to dance between one and three spot consistently.

Defo give the article submitting a try.. It's not as good as it used to be, but you still get decent enough effects from it. If you can't be bothered actually writing them, use the program Dragon Speech To Text. I used to use this and it worked really well, could knock up a 400/500 word article in a few minutes. Obviously proof read it after as you will likely need to make a few correction.

Then spin the article a few times, and submit :)

I don't suggest people to join the blog networks anymore.
Actually I believe that the structure of link building is having NO STRUCTURE. Totally randomize the process of link building. then you will get the best option.
    thanks

I agree, but since I am so new I just wanted to check my stratagies. I really miss the blog networks, that made life simple.

So far I am just pointing all my spam linking practices at the extra sites and they in turn link to the main money site (in context links in the posts and and one of them has a blogroll on the side bar site wide) I am still doing all my normal white hat linking to the money site (industry forum sigs, directories, links from industry blogs etc.) Is this leaving much of a footprint in your opinion?
