quick wp expert question

Hi Guys,

I have a problem with a self hosted wp site.
As soon as i rename the 'plugin' folder to 'pluginX' the site loads (without plugins)

So i know i have a issue with a plugin!

Where does wp store information about each plugin? i mean how does it know which plugins are active and which are inactive? and where is this information saved?

It might be in "includes/plugins.php"

Why do you want to rename the folder?
If a plugin is giving you problems, deactivate all the activate one at a time.
